Where did psx come from? I always called it playstation, after 2, everyone around me just called it ps1, also the smaller psOne model reinforced "ps1 " further, so why psx? I missed the memo

>> No.8433323

>>8433208
PS-X was briefly used as an alternative name in America before launch because proto-SCEA thought that PlayStation sounded dumb. Magazines which widely reported about supposed Sony's console got info on PS-X and liked that name so much that they kept using PSX as an acronym long after it was discarded internally. When PS2 became a thing and Sony had redesigned PlayStation as PSone, PS1 emerged as a de facto official name and almost completely erased PSX from mainstream media. 21 century people now look weird at old people referring to their console as PSX.
Some early games also used letter X to denote PlayStation version like with Tetris X, S and 64.

Probably me. I remember OP called me a chud in another thread where I complained about it, and I'm the only autist who's ever made more than one post about how stupid the acronym is, I think. Could just be some latent schizophrenia though.

I remember everybody thought it was stupid back in the Nintendo forum I used to browse in 2003-ish, everybody just said GC back then. We all knew the reasoning behind putting N at the end but we still mocked it.

Yeah, it was official but nobody actually used that acronym unless they were forced to, like in a gaming magazine like nintendo power.
If anyone wanted to abbreviate they just said GC, not GCN. Just like how nobody says NDS instead of DS.
