What are some obscure retro vidya games you want to/have played? Pic related looks super cool but I don't know if there's even a rom of it.

There's a bunch of those Japanese VN's from the 90s I never heard of until recently. Only learned about them thanks to this streamer actually.

A lot of interesting games for that system. Wish more of them got English fan patches.

Cool thread, I have some games I actually would love to share that I normally never get the chance to post about.

War of the Dead is a really post apocalyptic survival horror adventure games. There are two games in the series both on the MSX2 and a updated port to the PC Engine. The first game is closer to Zelda II as it transitions to a side scroller for combat but the second game keeps a consistent overhead view. To be honest the MSX2 versions are pretty rough but I think the PC Engine version is pretty solid I feel, shame the sequel never got the same treatment. For anyone interested a fan translations for the PC Engine version of the first game was made as well as one for the sequel, not sure if anyone translated the first game's original MSX2 release.

Damn, I need to read my posts more carefully, excuse the sloppy writing.

Another cool game I never see mentioned is Velldeselba Senki Tsubasa no Kunshou. It's like a mix of shooter and jrpg, Stellar art and character designs in this one but sadly no translation exists for it.

A game I have literally never seen any other human reference is Seven: Molmorth no Kiheitai and damn is that a shame. It's an early PS2 game that is sort of a mix of SRPG and RTS. The battles themselves play out in real time and have your characters controlled by AI but the player has to plan out a party to enter combat and keep track of the battle to adjust aspects of the party is necessary. I adore the artstyle of this game and it looks amazing ingame, What a tragedy this was never localized.

Figure I should add the most obscure game I've seen talked about. Beasts of Horror is an Israeli PC game that was only known about through this gaming magazine until this dude streamed it.

Thanks anon, those both look sweet. Some of these have really amazing cover art it's hard to think they'd be so obscure.

I always expect these games to be on old Japanese PCs. Seeing some on PS2 is super interesting.

I've only played War of the Dead of those games since it is the only one in English, and only the PC Engine version. I personally found it quite charming but it admittedly has quite a bit of annoying filler that can make it frustrating. Also while I understand some people are total purists I really suggest using save states as saves, the passwords it requires are infamously long. That said if you can look past that stuff I feel the setting and plot are pretty novel.

One game I debated posting was London Seirei Tanteidan. Unlike the games above I have seen this one mentioned here but it still seems relatively unknown. A setting of Victorian London meets fantasy sounds really fun but it just is probably another one of those games that is too much work for anyone to bother with. It, Seven: Molmorth no Kiheitai, and Linda: Cubed Again are definitely the games I most wish to see a translation some day.

Astrocounter of Crescents is a game I wish more people knew about. It's one of these Sidescrolling Beat Em Ups similar to games like Ninja Warriors, Genocide and Mad Stalker, only much lengthier
Like many other Korean PC DOS/Windows games from that era, it showcases considerably complex graphical effects at an impressive speed (though I personally find the background art to be underwhelming).
There is also an English Translation for those who curious about the storyline: https://www.romhacking.net/games/2093/
It might not be as well designed as Iron Blood, but it's undoubtfully better than stuff like Secret Armored Force.
Here is a gameplay showcase:

This is anther pretty neat one. I don't know if it's my thing gameplay wise but the art is really nice.
I think part of the reason why I'm often so impressed with the art in these is that while I've seen a lot of more popular games that look better, the fact that they're talked about so much makes them seem less surprising than something like this.
>>8203160
You'd think that was a modern day game going for a pixelated look from that video. There seems to be a lot of obscure Korean vidya out there made for the PC.

Here's another obscure one I've seen on a stream before. It's a game based on the Slaine comic with an interesting mechanic where you choose what actions to take, but the actions only appear on screen for a certain amount of time so you have to think fast. only game I know of that has this.

Just dropped this game because I couldnt get into the combat, I don't know if I'm missing something but it just seems very limited and really hard but not in a fun way. I would love to be wrong because the artstyle is amazing and the story seems fun enough so far.

Super Metroid. I never see or hear anything about it on this board. It must be the most obscure FPS game I've played.

Dark Heart of Uukrul looks like it could've been super cool for me to play in some other timeline but I don't have the motivation for it at this point in my life, too busy playing all the slick 2D indie action-adventures.
