CD 32x just means a CD and a 32x connected to a genesis. way more people bought Sega CDs than 32xs, so there's actually a decent chance that most people who bought 32xs had a Sega CD

Does the 32X have hidden power not unlcoked by any game? I'm trying to figure out what would be the most fun retro console to develop a game for. Something like a big metroidvania.

The aspect ratio seems messed up since it should be 4:3. Also they're cheating with the music. Audio compression tech wasn't that advanced in that era. It was either redbook audio or in-game synths. mp3s were much later.

It meant you needed both add-ons to use a CD 32x disc. Only die-hard sega fans had both, but yes, I'm sure the 750k people who bought into 32x also had a Sega CD.

You don't need to have the Mega CD to play the game. All the CD does is add an option to have CD-quality music.

This proves nothing. A homebrew Saturn Doom port could run just as smooth too. With 20 years of knwoledge and all the time and tools in the world you can do better than rushjob low budget ports.

The 32X has the same dual SH-2s as the Saturn. But the Saturn's are clocked higher and it has more RAM. So if 32X can do this so can Saturn and probably better.
>>8182940
The music with the Sega CD is redbook audio. No compression is used. If you don't have the Sega CD you have standard FM synth.

I was skimming the thread which was linked in the youtube video and it seems that they didn't utilize the 32x's PWM capabilities to its fullest as they were already hitting the ceiling with the ROM's 4MB storage. One poster mentioned using an SSF2-type mapper to extend the ROM's addressable space to 6MB, which could possibly be used to expand the cartridge's music and sound. I'm not sure how much headroom the SH-2s have for further sound processing, though. It'd be interesting to hear if implemented, though.

Funny because on the most basic level SotN wouldn't run or look properly on the 32x same as it didn't on the Saturn. SotN was so deeply ingrained into the PSX rendering modes that even the tile sets don't match up on the Saturn.

ADX is definitely doable on the SH-2s as the Saturn was able to pull it off. It also requires very few CPU cycles to pull off on the SH-2.

You might also be able to pull it off on the Sega CD's 68k since it's not really doing a whole lot.
