The emulator removed a chunk of the slowdown which might have made a little bit of difference, but to be honest it also made some of those boss explosions not take 25 seconds, so I considered it a win all around.

Yes, I played 3 and 2 and they're both great so far. You can fiddle with so many settings, it has hard mode, you can remove slow down and play with filters and gadgets, it's awesome.
btw Yuzu emulates the GG Aleste collection really well.

I don't know about better than Senjin, but I have to admit these seem to be shockingly good. Seems to me the GameGear in general has a pretty underrated library.

Also it's pretty nice to learn Yuzu can run on my dogshit toaster, too. It's absolutely perfect for this Aleste Collection, but I hope it can handle the other M2 stuff I've been missing out on like Deathtiny.

The video sub system on these boards was never taxed until the Raizing games were done on it. It's flexible and powerful for a 2D board. I just finished Darius recently and have been working on Thunder force 3 on my genesis mini.
I dont understand how anyone could beat these games without cheats or saving every few mins, seems impossible.

i've been working on darius gaiden. i realized after a while i was doing well enough to make one of the bosses take on a different pattern because of rank, i assume. i can get to the third stage without dying. i used to have a lot of trouble "converting" the enemies with the orbs on them, but i'm pretty good at it now.

Checkpoints make Ghouls n Ghosts games harder, but it doesn't feel like bullshit because you aren't playing in slowmotion with a pea shooter for a weapon. lots of checkpoint shmups think it's funny to gimp your speed/power on top of it all and have you chase powerups for half the stage again. I played through Final Soldier on the PC Engine. Went through the entire game to the next to last boss with out losing a life. Then I had to use a continue on the last stage. Never got that far before, but I beat it on normal. So much better than Super Star Soldier.

Super Star Soldier has unfair checkpoints and is a bitch unfortunately--not in a good way.

Final Soldier is a decent beginner shmup and one of my first clears as well, but Soldier Blade is 100% the cream of the crop.
