/vr/ I have to admit it. I suck at racing games and really anything involving cars.

>> No.8042867

I had a lot of run-ins with this game but never played it in earnest. It's simple, mostly, but very fun. They really nailed the handling in it, and the burnout button is one of the best ideas in a game like this ever. I just did the short Taxi mission a moment ago. Had to do quite a few tries on that three-part mission with the briefcase pick up and drop off. Only just realized I can sneak past cop cars if the felony meter is low.

I remember I read the manual and it basically tells you everything on how to pass the tutorial

>>8042965
yeah the only hard part is figuring out the order to do the tricks in time

Fuck this game. Genuinely. Yes I got filtered. No I don't care.

On the main menu there's a selection called Training. In Training there's a rolling video of the parking lot test being completed along with an input display, and then it lets you try it out yourself.
The time's flexible enough that you don't even need to stick to their order, but it clearly spells out what to do.

my dad and i were stuck on this but then we either borrowed or rented the steering wheel controller and he absolutely fucking smoked it, they probably should have bundled that shit with the game

>Driver tutorial: The Game

>> No.8044757

>>8042837
I love how this opening is a homage to Walter Hill's The Driver though, that film used to air on Channel 5 back in the 90s and us Brits have a nostalgic fondness for it that was present even then.

Since it was an M-rated game, was this put in to filter out children?

>> No.8045524

>>8045305
Yes. Except it also filtered full grown idiots who went on to cry about it on the internet. You can see some of them here, doing it now.

You need to prove you're actually capable of beating the game right up front so that nobody is wasting their time, because the last mission is the other driver straight-up cheating the physics engine.

I'm a certified retard but this tutorial really isn't that hard.
The speed and 180s are the hardest parts but it should only take you a few tries to get a good run down.

>suck as an arcade driving game
>all attempts at an "open world" game suck
>all attempts to incorporate shooting also suck
All Driver games suck.

>> No.8045591

>>8045571
Based. I don't even know why people like the first game so much. It's nothing but driving through perfectly straight roads (the ones in the first city being several minutes long) with all "chases" consisting of randomly spawning police cars trying to ram into you before being promptly left behind.

>> No.8046536

>>8045571
I didn't really bother with the missions, I just fucked around with the super fast cheat car and watched the funny replays

>> No.8046576

I think the only mission I liked from Driver was the first one (after the tutorial) where you're actually a getaway driver. The rest is just kinda boring sneaking missions.

I didn’t know what “Slalom” was back when this was released.

I used to KILL this game. Fuck the last level but;
>upcoming bridge to the right
>felony over half way
>pedal to the floor
>take foot off gas
>rip the handbrake
>hold it, hooooooold it
>car has been sliding for 200 feet
>once perfectly lined up with bridge entrance
>turn right
>burnout
>gtfo
>???
>"we've lost him"
Great times.

Never liked it. Felt primitive and clunky, even at the time.
