I own an original Mortal Kombat 2 arcade cabinet. It’s in pretty good condition. A few nicks and sings but nothing too noticeable. The side art isn’t faded and there’s no monitor burn. Bought it off a guy on Craig’s list for $750 about 7 years ago. The guy I bought it off re-did all the buttons and joysticks beforehand.

I have a gold cab 1 slot MVS, a Vigilante cab, a Midway multigame unit- think 1up but from the late 2000s, a cocktail quiz machine that was something Nintendo at one point, always wanted to put a new board in it, and not a full unit but have the main board for Sega Lost World.

I had a chance to get a TouchMaster counter unit, standing AfterBurner and Pacman Jr but was retarded and lost my chance at em. Been eyeing up a 2 player Daytona usa unit in my area...

I dont have any arcade 1ups but would kinda like that killer instinct one if it ever goes on discount

Posted in a recent thread I had this on the way, finally arrived. Extremely happy with the quality of the thing. The 1.21 giggawatt speakers lived up to the hype, they can get incredibly fucking loud. Quality of the wood was great, Sanwa sticks and super good quality clone buttons. Also a great height and a breeze to put together. Apparently the board on it is a little more powerful than most newer cabs out there.

Two main caveats are the price and game selection. I got mine $200 off but you're looking at $799 when its not on sale. I would have went Arcade Legends Ultimate if I could get the Sam's club deal for $500 with the pinball flippers, but my only option is $600+Shipping right now so I said fuck it. I don't trust the quality of Arcade 1ups after their initial launch, and I wanted a multicade without modding.

The game library is light but has solid games, I've been playing
>Wind Jammers
>Magical Drop III
>Boogie Wings
>Dragon's Lair
>Dead Cells
>Gun Bird
>R-Type
I like the idea of the modern games on there. A lot of them are mobileshit or indie garbage but there are some solid and interesting titles in there like Ys Chronicles I and Riptide. Really I'm just hoping they get some 3D Arcade games that Rasperry Pi's struggle with at some point, and Super Dodgeball since they already have some Technos games.

I absolutely love it and recommend it on-sale IF you'd be happy with the library as-is. They add games every week but sometimes there are gaps between quality releases, and no guarantee of getting license deals with more big names like Midway down the line. I'm still looking to get an ALU down the line and probably a custom Pandora/RPi cab at some point.

Haha I really like the Dragon's Layer artwork but I see where you're coming from. Definitely beats their default cab design in my book. I will say one other con is they suck dick at branding. The name, logo, default artwork all feels like an unheard of offbrand $10 earbud brand you'd find at walmart to me.

Deciding factors were definitely the feel and specs of the cabinet over the look. I like the original I posted and even more in person, but look forward to having at least one other cabinet with a different design next to it in the future.

Thats a shocker and never would have thought about going anywhere near China for legit MVS carts now a days. Then again, they sell 2nd model N-Gage systems from the left-over parts from the factories that made them, so maybe they have an ass load of SNK boards over there for similar reason? Apparently MVS was fairly big in chinkland. You can sometimes find boards with CHINA ONLY carved into the plastic bits of the system.
Gotta learn to look at the listings though. There's some selling bootlegs without saying, others clearly listing theirs as bootlegs and then there's those that sell legit carts. It's really the same as buying MVS games from anywhere else.
The legit carts I've got are a weird mix of US and Jap labels but there's also Korean carts for sale which have more difference than just label.
Holo labels and legit PCBs with original chips that all match what's on mvs-scans though.

Honestly, my initial thoughts of owning the A1Up for a few days are mostly negative.

It was the same price as the MVSX, out of the box has 12 games to the MVSX' 50, the MVSX is softmoddable with just a USB stick whereas the A1Up needs additional hardware, and the MVSX' build quality is just so much better it's unreal. Where your knees might hit both cabinets, the MVSX is inch thick MDF and the A1Up is like 1/8" sheet of essentially cardboard.

I do really like it but I'd keep an eye on what Unico does next.

It really depends. People spend $600-700 on groupbuys on cabs sight unseen, when individual from Japan might be $1500 to your door. $800 with MVS board is a pretty good deal IMO, provided it's in nice condition.

Look up group buys, there's often them for Taito and Candycabs. You really don't know what you're gonna get, but they're always in working order and decent cosmetic condition.
