There was an ad in a magazine (sometime like 1997, I guess? It had articles about Tomb Raider 2 and G-Police).
The game seemed to be a 1st/3rd person shooter, I don't remember, but the ad... It was there seemingly to show how violent and realistic the thing was. It showed a top down view of a metalic looking hallway, a guy that is presumably the protag shooting a mook (a bald dude) to death, and, in the huge splash of blood that formed behind him, there were notes pointing to different bits of the gore and saying stuff like "yesterday's meal", "gall bladder", "piece of his liver", something like that. It was so awesomely over the top at the time, but I remember jackshit about the advertised game itself.

Also, in the same mag, there was another ad, it seemed like an strategy game, and the picture was a grey drinking coffee and reading a newspaper in the middle of a bunch of businessmen humans doing the same, with a slogan to the impact of "they are already among us".

Man, I really need to dig up that thing sometime. Should be still here in my house somewhere.

An arcade beat-em-up side scroller from the early 90s. Modern day, city setting. Each level ended in a boss fight. I remember one boss had a hockey goalie mask Jason Vorhes style (I think he had an ax?)...

These bosses were very large, and tall, and could hit hard, but all had momentary weaknesses. I think the Jason dude would get his ax lodged into the street and have to yank it back out... Another would fall over after enough hits and yell "Forgive me!" before getting back up to pound on you again.

The level before the final boss you had a boss rush of every boss from all the levels before, so like 5 or 6 bosses were all gang banging you.

That was a fun game... Any ideas?

Some mid-90s FPS game for DOS. I remember playing a demo of it back around that time, and the first area had you running around some sort of compound in a forest with a few buildings which you could. There was either a lot of fog, or the draw distance was just short. I only remember getting one gun, which encased enemies in some sort of goo. When you died, it showed a picture of your body with a caption saying something like "Your body was found weeks later with a note on it saying 'Stop wasting my time with these sissy-men!'"

This demo came on an old Software of the Month Club CD that I got in the mail back then, if that helps any. I remember playing a bunch of shareware and demos on those CDs but for whatever reason this one stuck out in my mind the most over the years.

Long ago, I had a couple of those old ass gaming magazines that came with 2 CDs, one with a complete game, the other with a bunch of demos.
Pictured, is the back of one of the ones I had (main game CD being Crusaders of Might & Magic), taken from the local ebay equivalent (yeah, yeah, inb4 huehue shit). I remember I still have these hardcovers in here somewhere (just found the one with Interstate '76).
Anyway, I wanted the thing for the purpose of looking up the games whose name I don't remember, and the only pic I found of the list of demos is very lowres and poorly taken (pic related).
I have a simple request. Identifying all of these games.

1st row: Canopia, Championship Surfer, Freeride Earth, Ford Racing
2nd row: Chopper 2K, Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty, Frogger 2
3rd/4th row: Oni, Gorkamorka, Ludo Racer 3D, Project I.G.I.
5th row: Puzzle Station, Sammy Suricate, Space Tripper, Rowan's Battle of Britain
Last row: State of War, Virtual Pool 3, Zeus

I have a couple, posted this first one in other threads but each time got completely ignored

it was an entirely alien and abstract seeming game... you controlled this ball or orb type thing through a maze, trying to avoid things that fired at you and other very alien looking obsticles. Had some sort of options screen but it was entirely in some sort of made up alien language. Had an about screen or file that had this odd silly story about how the programmer supposedly didn't make the game but found it one his computer after it started oozing slime.

Second game was a clone of LttP for dos, that's all, it was just a straight clone, looked exactly like it except for the guy you controlled and was quite fun. Wish I had more to describe about it, but that's it.

All I recall from the very short time I had to play it at an uncles was it being an RPG on either DOS or perhaps even an early mac system.

The main thing in particular I remember though was there being a party system, if a character died, I believe they were either dead for good, or could come back automatically as a zombified character, with the same equipment but lowered stats. If they were dead for good, you had to hire another party member to replace them.

Also seem to remember a lot of brown, as in, all the graphics were done in shades of it. ALL of them. I could be wrong though.

I can't seem to remember this very odd "90's" space adventure/minigame. I believe you were playing as a nerd in space, aboard a spaceship of aliens that gave you minigames to complete, one of the aliens prompted you to save the earth from an invasion of sick xenophobes that vomited over the planet and you had to catch it with a cup a la space invaders. The other minigame was similar to the previous except you needed to keep away spam solicitors from the house door of a particular grandma by shooting at them with a slingshot... I don't think anyone has ever found this game, ever.

You control a generic barbarian with a sword, if there are two players, the other controls a black barbarian. It was a ship flying game for SNES or Genesis with the ship you control looking like the pic related. The goal was that you had to kill 8 special enemies in each colourful world in order to fight the boss. Killing the boss moved you on to the next level. The first world was a forest and the boss was a giant flying pumpkin, the second level was a fire world with the boss being a giant round statue firing bullets everywhere. PC Game, fantasy setting. It had 2 modes of gameplay; there was a strategic mode where you managed your realm, I think you could upgrade your castle and build up your army. Then there was more of an rpg dungeon crawl. This would come about because you had heard there was some magic item in a dungeon or whatever and you could send in a party of adventurers and go through fighting the monsters etc.

Back in the strategy mode I think your adventurers became the army generals and any magic items they had gave them bonuses in any battles they fought for you.

Two games that I only have vague recollections of, so I doubt anyone will be able to pick them out.

One was a sort of real-time squad-based isometric sci fi game. You had a crew and I think you were fighting aliens on a space station or a colony of some kind. I seem to remember some rooms being overrun with vegetation, or maybe one of them was a garden of some kind.

The second was another isometric strategy game, but I remember it being turn-based. You were either playing as or against a group of demons and orcs/goblins, fighting them in a big grassy field at night (for some reason I remember there being some modern/futuristic elements like roads and buildings). The graphics were very simple pre-rendered stuff with the characters looking a lot like the ones in Dink Smallwood or a less sophisticated Fallout. The name "Spellcraft" comes to mind, but searching for that yields no results that resemble what I'm thinking of. The .exe icon maybe have looked like a red pentagram

DOS:
Colored marbles would come in from the top of the screen on a rail system. You had to somehow sort them within this rail system. This was done by some kind of crossroads connecting the rails. A puzzle/adventure(?) game I played as a kid on the PC

It featured a gray/white haired guy searching for different coloured keys to unlock different coloured doors to advance onto the next level. The keys were more often than not protected by lava or ice tiles on the floor. There is a possibility of other types of floor tiles as well. To get to the keys he had to use different types of shoes, a pair of shoes for each type of floor.

The key colours were, if I remember correctly, purple, yellow, red and pale blue and the backdrop was a green/blue shade. It was played using the arrow keys and the camera view was a sort of traditional birds-eye down view.

I cannot for the life of me remember what the game was called. Help?

Afraid not, I definitely recall it being a first person game, using sprites, and the early parts being completely survival (running from monsters) with early puzzle adventure elements, like some sections became point in click maybe?

the plane was on fire, but later you would come back to it and the fire would burn out and you could enter the plane to get a few items.

I wish I could remember more, but i was anywhere between 4-7

Flight-based combat, pretty sure in jets.
I can't recall if it was 1st or 3rd person, but instinct says first person.

It was largely based around dogfights, at least what I remember of it.

I had this weird little RPG game on an old macintosh computer. (It was basically part of the bloatware.)

The game was black and white, and you controlled a guy as he walked around a generic "medieval" game world. Like any RPG now, you fought enemies to gain items/exp and when you equipped something it showed up on your character.

There weren't any battle screens, you just stood next to an enemy and hit attack and each would flash when damage was taken.

Pic related, it's a -rough- drawing of what I can recollect.

I come to you, /vr/ and humbly ask a favor. When I was a wee lad, my father bought me my first game console: the Sega Genesis. I had 3 games that, looking back, I played the shit out of. My most vivid memories of my early childhood contain the images that these games laid onto my TV. I can only recall the name of one: Vectorman.

I have no idea what the name of the other two are, and I so dearly wish to know, so I can google or youtube them and take a trip down memory lane.

So I beg of you, help me. Help me remember. I will describe them to the best of my recollection.

Game #2: This one was truly my very first game, ever. I remember it being somewhat scary to me, at that age, because it was mostly dark: there were torches on walls, and in caves. The viewpoint was first-person, I believe, and there was no voice acting, of course, just speech bubbles at the bottom of the screen. I know this isn't a lot to go off of, but I don't remember much else that can be explained easily. Using what I know now, it almost seems like it was an RPG or something. Not sure if it was Japanese or a Western game. I really would like to know what it is called, though. The year I played it would have been around 1996, maybe 1995. Unsure how new it was at that time.

Game #3: A racing game. I believe the only cars were very bad models of F1 cars. The track I vividly remember was one in between two green cliff faces, and an arched bridge. I think there was puffs of sheep on the cliffs. Pretty bland other than that but I loved it.

Though I recall this particular game was not as colorful or "cartoonish" if you understand me. It was dark, and I don't know why but the biggest memory I have for it is fear. I distinctly remember not getting far in it because it scared me to go into this cave or something. The screen view wasn't able to be controlled, you just moved from area to area I think. And I remember potions or bags of coin or something that could be found in "areas".

There was this SNES game I played once when I was a kid, Not entirely sure if it was NES or SNES but I'm inclined to SNES.

Game Cover: Bald, shaolin monk looking kind of fighter guy with orange pants (hot colors) with a bead necklace perhaps and he's looking up to the sky with pterodactyl and meteorites homing in on him.

Gameplay: Sidescroller, he looked fatter in the game, the level layout sort of reminds me of castlevania, shoots fireballs out of his hands and you could get upgrades that gave you wings (the only one I remember)

There was a boss fight in the game involving a tyrannosaurus rex and the boss arena would be in a leveled down terrain once he appeared on screen.

That's all I remember, I've thought about this game many times over the past few years, please tell me someone knows this one.

PSX Shmup.

You play a toy wandering around a house shooting other toys. One of the toys/ships is a humanoid mecha with lasers, another is a biplane/triplane with missiles. Player 2 can plug in as a floating reticule that shoots stuff. Played it around 1998/99.

I was told that I would have better luck here.

It was a PC game, around Windows 98ish.

You play as a one-eyed monster covered in greyish teal scales, and the setting is like an underground mine and a nuclear waste dump in space. The area looks like an underground mine, but there are windows that show outer space.

It's a platformer-type game, where you run around obstacles, avoid/kill enemies, and you start off with three missiles. You can recover energy by picking up small cans of nuclear waste, and your character makes a burping sound every time he picks one up.

>> No.826605

you were a line that spun around on nodes and i think you had to press control to switch from one to another. that was the core gameplay mechanic - it was also on the mac iirc . . like the mac v.5.0 or so, or near the years 1995-1998

I knew this game only as C:/hero
You were a guy who could either fight monsters, or sneak around like a thief. You died from literally everything - fail at sneaking? Dead. Smoked too much hookah? Dead. I remember the currency of the game was dinars
It was like SNES quality, I played it from DOS, so def not Thief or anything that new

It was on PS1 some sort of weird adventure? Game with spiders as a resource or spiders were important I dunno spiders were a main part of it. Your health I think was represented by five Zs like Z Z Z Z or something at the top of the screen. Dreams or sleeping was part of the story. I remember if you let the start screen go for awhile in one of the gameplay demos the main guy (Simon? Whenever I think of this game I think of the name Simon) could use his spider resources to build bridges or something weird. I don't want to play it I just want the thinking to stop

I can't think of the game...
its on ps1
You play as a knight and you get this dragon that levels up and grows into something...its not a turn based rpg or anything...
It was in a tips and tricks magazine...
I really want to know what it is, wish I had more to go on.

No. Its not a JRPG, I know I mentioned turn based specifically because I didn't want people ruling out it wasn't japanese by default.

It was a game for Apple computers. Many public schools I've been to had them pre-installed on their computers, so it was likely edutainment.

You play as a faceless guy with very poor color coordination. I think he wore a red baseball cap, a cyan jacket, and yellow shoes. Most of the time, you're in a dark building, most likely a school at night. You run into enemies, one them being a robot with a single wheel for support (instead of legs or two wheels).

This has been bothering me for a long time, so I'm going to ask if you have any idea what this game is. There was this game I used to play on the PC a long time ago, maybe somewhere around 1992-1996 (sorry I can't remember more specifically, and I'm not sure if it came out around that time or was older). It was a top down space shooter game, and from what I remember you basically just fought against 3 other ships and the camera was fixed in the one location. I think you could buy upgrade between battles and stuff like that. For some reason I thought it was Star Control but after looking it up it isn't. Do you have any ideas what this game could be?

The background doesn't move, the arena you're in, is the whole stage. You could like select from 8 (or whatever number) of ships and you'd fight 1-3 of those ships in like a deathmatch and each ship had it's own special abilities if I remember correctly.

There was an old win 95 game I've been trying tofind. It was basically a 2d top down shooter set in space and asteroids except the enemies were your desktop icons. Plus you had this tether ability to latch on to these icons and swing them into other enemy shops or asteroids. I think I downloaded it off of AOL back in the day

Windows 95 or 98. DOS, I think. Single map, side view. You collected hearts... or diamonds ? You used bombs or something; you might have been a dwarf.

It was a puzzle/logic game, if you did something wrong you weren't able to collect everything. I've been looking for it since I was a child and my memories are hazy.

May be a long shot but... Clyde's Adventure?
Later levels used bombs and there was definitely a puzzle aspect to it. Lots of teleporting around to collect energy - if you don't have enough you can't finish. Was pretty freakin' hard as a kid.
