this game is weird as fuck and i've never played anything else like it, you play the handler of a group of spies and have to issue orders to them rather than control them directly, the spy you're 'controlling' takes the center screen while the others have smaller boxes on the side so you can have them execute orders simultaneously, haven't played much of it but it's an interesting concept

JSR is my favorite game ever and I'll happily tell you the HD versions are objectively the best version. Off the top of my head
>the NA and PAL releases had graffiti for some of the artists who provided music for the Grind City levels, but they mostly looked like shit anyway (I remember Rob Zombie's being pretty alright)
>graffiti was fucked around with in general, from original JP to international versions they already censored a bunch of weed references in the graffiti, the HD versions remove a bunch of graffiti and replaces them with new fanmade ones, no big deal by any means and some of the new graffiti are pretty cool
>QoL HD upres or whatever, control and camera options, although pretty slight overall, make it the definitive version all on its own, L to spray and center camera was always one of the more 'quirky' parts of JSR's design
>selecting options or character in the garage can be sped up, I believe the process was already sped up for international versions but the HD versions are the fastest for sure
>some songs have been removed as expected which sucks but at the same time we lost a song from JP to international, it happens (PAL DC version still has the best and most complete OST overall)
Besides that I can't tell you many issues with it. Not a lot in terms of graphical or gameplay changes that are really worth mention to me at the moment. The 360 version also adds in a tracker function to the graffiti menu that tracks what graffiti you have used so far on that file, for the sake of a newly added achievement. Can't remember if the PC version has that too but the PS3 version doesn't.

Personally I don't prefer Future's '3D platformer' take on the Jet Set Radio concept along with the general level design. Honestly besides graphics (and I kind of prefer the more colorful and vibrant style of the original) I'd say the original beats it out in every category of game design.
The only thing really that I'll have to admit is that JSR has more of a learning curve than JSRF, its controls and physics and momentum take some getting used to. One thing I'll say in their favor is that I think the game does a pretty decent job of emulating actual skates with how the characters control, which is both the logic of the game and a limitation because maneuvering on skates is going to be clunky at times. That's my rationality anyway. JSRF to me has kind of slippery controls and you speed up weirdly fast. This can make some of the platforming sections a total chore. It isn't like the original where I feel like I learn to work with the game's mechanics and understand them, it's just tedious and annoying. Future has too many missteps like that in its design that makes it not as great in my opinion.
But I mean, Future is still a great game with a ton of personality and probably the better OST of the two games. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot about Future, and I went in fully expecting it to be a Smash 64 -> Melee type of situation, but I just found myself disappointed in some ways. Am I biased because I love the original so much and I'm just so used to it? Yeah to some extent, but I 100%ed Future and I've played it on an original Xbox, so I feel like I've played enough of the game to judge it fairly.

>still never gonna let go of the pal dc version i have that's somehow the only dreamcast box from my childhood that isn't horribly damaged
Tho I have the disc and the manual, I didn't bother with a case, regret it now

i agree
its short life led it to having one of the least polluted libraries imo

That's fucking retarded, it just means it never got as many good games as it should have. A system being full of shovelware doesn't matter one lick nowadays because naturally nobody remembers the shitty games.

the guy was talking about the dreamcast launch library, which was in fact, excellent. since DCs lifespan was so short, i tend to think of its full library as a whole.
it was a good system with a good library
it was an embarrassingly small library, but it was still much better when taken as a whole than any other system i can think of.
it had not a lot of games overall, but the vast VAST majority of those games were excellent.
more games wouldve obviously been better than what happened, even if that meant more shitty games and i wouldve gladly accepted that, but thats simply not what happened.

TGFX-16 had a rather short US lifespan, and while it had a bunch of cool exclusive games too, i cant honestly say that it comes even close to DC in how many of its games were good.
DC failing had more to do with sega fucking imploding than anything else. certainly no fault of the system itself, nor the software published for it.

How is the JP release better? I thought it was missing Bantam Street and Grind Square

>> No.7799034

>>7799024
That isn't the original JP release, it's De La Jet Set Radio, basically the International versions ported back for Japanese audiences with a limited release.
As for the actual JP version as much as I love it it is really not much more than a prototype for the International versions and yes doesn't include those two stages.

This one's fucking great. I'm still baffled it somehow didn't make a comeback back when quick fun games were all the rage in the early mobile/XBLA era.
Kinda like REZ did. This deserved the same love that REZ got.

I love the replayability of the game. I remember mother buying it because it could it had co-op(so my brother and I would play it together) and that way she wouldn't need to buy 2 games. Kek
Amazing game, though.
