N64 had a limited color range output, darks were never dark and lights were never light, very low contrast.
What makes the other systems appear better is the visual FX they can do while the N64 can't do glows and other effects.
Either way N64 3D games play better than those systems.

A lot of games later on found ways to work around that and get it down to an acceptable level. And on Saturn it only happens when polygons get near the edge of the screen, but that can be mitigated if you subdivide the polygons as they get closer.
