no? usually, whether it's explicit or not, the 'liminal' space is one that's designed for people, but is too oppressive so there are none, or is just empty of some kind of furniture business/life that's there's space for.
This just looks like under a bridge or actually kind of like a fish pond or something.
the ONLY redeeming feature of this image is the way the scene out the end kind of looks like rolling hills with a black sky

Each map serves as a transitory space leading, ultimately, to the top the Citadel. As you draw closer to the Citadel, there is a progression from purely human forms to overwhelmingly alien environments, creating an unsettling, almost disorienting, atmosphere. The streets of City 17, the labyrinthine Kanals, the dark alleys of corrugated metal and brick of Ravenholm, the winding, fog drenched coasts, and, finally, up to the very top of the Citadel - each map seamlessly leading to the next until you reach the pinnacle of that alien tower.
Art and gameplay are perfectly intertwined. The bridge map along the Coast is my favorite and is the best example of how the art of HL2 serves the gameplay rather than the other way around. This method of level design lends, in part, to the surreal look of the environments, in which things can look quite bizarre but remain plausible.
Gordon Freemam's story is one of liminality in the truest sense. After defeating the Nihilanth, he is frozen in time by Gman until he is awoken, only briefly, for the events of HL2. The passage of years only felt like a moment to Gordon. After destroying the reactor at the heart of the Citadel, he is frozen again, in a "liminal space", waiting to be tossed back into the unknown.

That's not what liminal space is. Not in architecture, at least.

Liminal means in-between. Hotel hallways are a liminal space because they're not a real place, but a transitioning point between real places. Alleyways and airports are the same way. A school or supermarket at night is a liminal space in a different sense, because they only serve a purpose during the day when people are using them.

I guess another form of liminal space would be something that only resembles a real place.
