Hello, can I use FreeDVDBoot with a regular game? I.e., put FreeDVDBoot and a PS2 game in one image using the steps from the image and have something I can put in a console? It's not 100% clear to me from the documentation here: https://github.com/CTurt/FreeDVDBoot#custom-disc-setup---slim

Never mind, found the answer further down the page:

It's possible to patch backup images of commercial games to make them bootable using this exploit. I didn't want to maintain this tool, so it's not included in this repository, but can be found by searching for something like FreeDVDBoot ESR auto patcher.

everything PS / PS2 homebrew is kind of fucky, confusing, and amateurish.
That said, the point of FreeDVDBoot is to put ELF and FreeMcBoot on an empty memory card so that you can use the functionality on boot.

Thanks, in my case I have a fat ps2 upstairs with a hard drive and a mcboot memory card already, but I have a thin ps2 downstairs hooked up to a DDR pad and I wanted to quickly burn some games. I burned DDR Extreme JP and it worked great. Really fuckin' cool to be able to just burn games like it's a Dreamcast or something.
I also have a few cases where games will only use Memory Card 1 but my 8mb memory card isn't big enough for the game I'm trying to save (ROT3K VII in this case) so I'll probably burn that as well and use a different memory card.
Again, mostly just excited about the novelty of burning ps2 games at this point. I went through the whole swap disk rigamarole back in the 2000s to play burned games, and this is like night and day.

isn't big enough in addition to the FreeMcBoot data, I mean

then put it on another memorycard in slot 2

using freedvdboot with games is shit, because the patched game only works with a specific bios-version.
don't be a newbie, get a modchip for the slim.

oh ok, it will still be bootable in slot 2? didn't realize this, thank you!

i'm patching the game right before i burn it so this isn't really an issue for me. are there any compatibility issues besides? i have noticed a few games don't work right in HDLoader

That's why people use OPL.
