Dragon Ball Z: The Super Saiyan Legend on SNES
open ended JRPG with some really cool attention to detail. You can abuse zenkai boosts to level up Goku into the stratosphere during the first boss fight with Raditz. The fact that Zenkai boosts are even implemented at all is amazing.
If you do good enough during Snake Way and King Kai's training Goku actually gets back fast enough to kill Nappa and the Saibamen before anybody dies. If you do this all the characters join you going to Namek and Tien gets super strong when his potential is unlocked by Guru.
Also instead of Frieza you can fight Super Saiyan Vegeta as the final boss if you fulfill certain conditions.

there's also the fact that you can set things up so that Captain Ginyu swaps bodies with someone besides Goku and keep the Ginyu version in your party, this apparently the best usage Chiaotzu has in the game

also this game gets a lot of callbacks in the first Xenoverse game, including the Super Saiyan Vegeta fight being an unlockable mission

Call me a retard and bad at video games but I never got to beat this and the first game.
The first game I get up to Yamcha and he kills me repeatedly. And in the sequel, I've never beaten Chichi.
I just don't get the games. I mean, I know that it's jankenpon but for the life of me I just can't beat them.
Every few years I try to beat either of both games with no avail.
I have been doing this for ~20 years and counting.

Did you ever try to look up a command guide to know what each button does?
They actually have some neat and intricate system where you can customize your attacks, learn new moves (depending on the attacks you receive from enemies) and level up your stats, but frankly, as interesting as it may be for some people, if you just want to advance the story, you can just charge your ki and spam kame hame ha (press A and X at the same time)

That one's great. Buu's Fury is good too. The rest in the Legacy of Goku series are kinda shitty though.
