Can we get a Gameboy General going?
I just got an Everdrive GB to play on my GBC and it's comfy as heck. Anyone wanna recommend me some games?
Let's talk all things Gameboy (GB/GBC/GBA) in this thread.

>> No.7140943

What color GBC do you have? I have a Atomic Purple one that I got for christmas when i was kid.

I have a custom backlit Pokemon one that I got recently and a non-backlit atomic purple one.
It's nice that you've still got your childhood system. I'm the same with my PS2 I've had for over 15 years.
Does your GBC still work, anon?

Thanks anon! I have Game & Watch Gallery on my 3DS iirc and it was alright, fun to pick up every now and again.
I'll look into Dragon Warrior Monsters, but I already have Dragon Warrior 1-3 on the Everdrive.
Pokemon Prism and Factory seem cool, I'll look into them later on in the day.
Thanks for the recs, fren.

I have many GBs, but for GBC, I have my original atomic purple, pink (great color and condition), blue (regrettably has a bad screen bezel), two of the Gold/Silver Pikachu/Pichu models (neither of which are in great shape), and my favorite one by far, the yellow/blue mix Pokemon RBY model, which is in great shape.

All that said, I've been playing DMG almost exclusively recently, ever since someone told me that they thought the screen was unusable. I am determined to see if I agree or disagree. I haven't used a DMG in decades, but it isn't really that bad, unless the game has a lot of fast-moving objects. Super RC Pro-Am doesn't give a fuck about DMG and you can tell. Other games, however, play fine on it, including (but not limited to) Tetris, Cyraid, Extra Bases, FF Legend 2, NBA Jam, Hyper Lode Runner, and Game & Watch Gallery.

The GB is in my top 5 favorite systems along with the NES/FC. It along with saturn, dreamcast, and PS1 have formed the bulk of my recent gaming, aside from oculus quest. I'm glad I challenged myself to play more GB, the system has way more good games than people tend to recognize.

I won't tell you what to do, but it is my suggestion that you get something else if the alternative means playing GB on this device. It doesn't have that great of a screen, and more importantly, it doesn't even display the correct aspect ratio.

I strongly recommend this alternative as a "modern" GBC: buy a nintendo DSi (especially an XL if you can find it) and install CFW on it (very easy to do). There is a very competent GB emulator for it that is quite capable, even to the point of showing super game boy borders for compatible games. I think that you'd get more out of that than a GB Boy Color.

I actually don't like collecting video games, but there is something special about the GBA carts. I just love em so much. hunting them is such a thrill but is getting quite expensive. I have waaay too many GBA games. If you live in Australia or NZ I recommend FullyRetro. Every single game I've ordered from them has been genuine (and there's been a lot). Unfortunately they're quite expensive and their store is situated in the UK so it takes a little while to get to AU/NZ. About two weeks.

Been playing Pokémon Clover, the original Tetris or Solar Strike, all using an EZ Flash Omega on my 001 Tribal that I got as a kid when I go to the toilet.
Waiting for a 900mah battery and a makho pcb.
For some time I wanted a 101, but learnt about the screen tearing. An IPS is stupid because I could just use my phone with a gamepad.
I have 2 GBC, one of them being the purple from childhood and the other blue, but they're back in Portugal. I'll bring them once I go on holidays. I'd like to get a DMG, Pocket, Light and Mini, but prices are stupidly high. Waiting on Lockdown V2 to end to start going to boot sales, since you can sometimes get deals as cheap as £2.

>Bootleg Green
For the past decade, ever since I realized that Pokemon Stadium and Stadium 2 both recognize Green with a bunch of Gen I Pokemon Nuzlocke runs, I've wanted to get a bootleg/reproduction copy of Green to use with Pokemon Stadium, but I never actually got around to doing it. Mainly because I'm not sure what I'd want out of it. A stock "Green" would just be identical to Blue but with a different Cerulean Cave, but changing the encounter tables to be JP Blue's wouldn't feel right either.

I'm also not sure how the Game Boy Tower would react, though I'm sure it wouldn't be too off.

3DS is fine, although the larger resolution makes playing unscaled GB games kind of a pain. Real sharp, though. I'd recommend an XL if you can.

Also, for what it's worth, there exist backlight and even IPS screen mods for pretty much all GB models. Playing on those or a model AGS-101 GBASP looks much better than 3DS (and technically performs better too but you probably won't notice), although these options can get pretty expensive.

Very interesting info. I'm thinking about making a hack of Red/Blue that features JP Blue's gameplay but with, as much as possible, JP Red's/Green's graphics, and then calling it Green Version. That way, we could truly have a unique "International" Green Version, as if one were released here in the same sort of manner JP Blue was released in Japan.

I should have mentioned I was talking about VC injects. For emulators like Gameyob, the lower resolution of the DS makes it a far superior experience, particularly the XL as you've said. I'd also recommend keeping scaling off as integer scaling isn't possible.

Green only came out in Japan along with Red in 1996, uses green tint on GBC, has earlier pokémon designs, some different map changes and bugs that were patched on Red and Blue in 1998.
That Green is probably the poorly english patched copy.

JP CoroCoro Blue 1996
NA/AU Red and Blue 1998
EU Red and Blue 1999

When I use the headphone jack on either of them, I get this low-volume, but noticeable high pitch whine that can even be heard through the GBC's speaker if I take the headphones out. Where would I start to fix this problem?

I'm enjoying my modded gba a lot. Played through pokemon clover, right now I'm playing Boktai 3 and FE8 (with an enhanced difficulty mod). Waiting for my gbc ips kit, I honestly enjoy the modding process just as much as playing the games themselves

Yes, but I still see butchering.

It has graphical glitches. Look it up on youtube, preferably by someone that knows what they're talking about. I think it was a Kirby game that has them below the title screen, for example.

No, I play on a 001. 101 also has slight ghosting.

Speakers don't last forever, and the speakers in handheld consoles not only get put into tougher environments than your average house speaker, but are also much cheaper and less quality. Their expected lifespan is 10-20 years. The constant stream of sweat from your grimy hands don't help them live any longer.
