What are the best retro anime games? Any genre is fine, though an rpg would be neat. I'm having difficulty finding a list of them, and even if I had one, I'd have no way of telling what's good.
For example, even though Ranma 1/2 is a great show, this game shucked.

Still the best.
But also: Endless Duel, Yuyu Hakusho, DBZ Super Butoden 3, DBZ Buyu Retsuden, Sailor Moon (SNES and MD, I prefer the MD version), Sailor Moon S and Super S fighting games.
DBZ has quite some good RPG games for Famicom, GB and Super Famicom too.

Why?
Also the other game isn't Saint Seiya, it's Magic Knight Rayearth.
Sadly Saint Seiya never got any 16-bit game, only some RPGs on Famicom and GB, which are nice in a way but nothing great.

DBZ was something I watched as a young child, so I'm familiar enough with it that it doesn't make the same impression as anime. I didn't start watching anime til 10-11, but I watched DBZ from 4-6. And the artstyle is so specific to Toriyama that it doesn't blend in with other anime as much.

I dunno, to me it looks as anime as something like hokuto no ken or saint seiya, but you're right that toriyama has his own distinct style, in fact evolved over the years (from round to more angular, to rounder shapes again later).
But it is anime, anyway.
If the only game you played was legacy of goku, then you're missing out on some great older games.

The Mega Drive Yuu Yuu Hakusho fighting game was one of the best fighting games on the system. It is pretty fun 4-player, and probably paved the way for Guardian Heroes for the Saturn.

Interesting case of a game being heavily localised for the Japanese audience. It was originally a Jetsons licensed game. Makes for an interesting effect where you have anime looking characters with some quite cartoony Hana-Barbera style animations. I think it's very cute.

That would be Magical Tarot-kun. It was by the same guy who made the Golden Boy series. His assistants also became some famous manga artists, like the one that did GTO and another who does the character designs for the Tales series for Namco.

Yeah so popular TOEI never bothered to adapt it in the 80s or 90s, i supposed it was too gay for its time, before the capcom games, we only had one shitty japanese rpg, and i mean, japanese rpg that only they like, and Jotaro showing up on a Famicom Jump game that was a mediocre RPG.

Seriously, there's not been many legit GOOD GOOD anime games that arent just good for anime cash-ins, but ACTUALLY AMAZING GREAT CLASSICS! we americans got lucky with the western licenses given to Konami and Capcom, the poor japanese had to suffer with the monopoly of BanDai.

Nah.
Bandai published some horrible games like ub22. The ones I mentioned are good. Games like Butoden are one of a kind fighting games, of course not as technically impressive as what capcom or snk did, but its uniqueness and good music makes the butoden games (especially butoden 2) stand out.
There's a reason why even to this day people still play butoden 2 competitively but not ub22.
Don't tell me what to like or dislike. The jojo game is nice but ultimately another capcom game, rather play vsav. Butoden offers unique gameplay.
