I like my oDroidGo Advance. I'm using Batocera as the operating system. GBA games have a perfect 2x scale and you can use a button combo to open the Retroarch menu and use the GBA color filters. The one massive downside is that the awkward resolution results in basicly anything that isn't GBA and PS2 needing a bit of blur or smoothing to not look like a jaggy mess. Fortunately this doesn't drive me crazy, but if your autistic I wouldn't recommend it.
For refrence the oDroid Go Advance to my knowledge plays NES-PS1 as well and any handheld. It plays PSP games to a level that I wouldn't expect (In my testing I got Gladiator Begins sitting at near its regular frame rate but with no sound glitches and Prinny worked flawlessly from what I played.) Puzzle Quest always seems to run slow and even throughts up a warning about probably needing to turn on frame skip but that might just be PPSSPP so IDK.
If your wanting to play N64 I haven't tested any of it but I would imagine it works well considering Batocera uses Libretro cores when it can.
TL;DR
I like the OGA it plays everything I wan't nicely but requires you turn on a bit of blur for everything that isn't GBA and PSP.

I had one, ldk landscape, it was pretty okay. I gave it to a person i like and she loves it. I got a hacked 3ds, the only downsides for me is the dpad location and overall size of the system. otherwise id use a ds lite but then i can't play snes.

The handhelds are gonna feel cheap and the screen will probably kinda suck but if that's not a big deal go for it. Especially if you dont care about ds/3ds games.

I have a retroid pocket 2 and I actually kind of like it now. If you are buying it for retroarch and are content without passable n64 or dreamcast, it's just fine. I don't even play psx games on it desu. It's mostly a pokemon device. Works great with fast foward toggle to do faster runs through the older games. I ran through Blue and Crystal, now doing the Fire Red remake on gba. For $80 I dont regret it desu. It's comfy

There's someone on /vr/ who flies into an autistic rage over these things, but yeah. I got an RP2 and it's pretty great. Everything up to N64 runs good.

I just use my phone with pic related using retroarch. I personally don't think those handhelds are worth it, but whatever it's your money.

I'm quite happy with my n2dsXL, I find that snes9x has no problem running anything I've thrown at it so far

what other emus should I be using? retroarch is a tad confusing with all the cores, why are there so many mame cores but when I search them they dont show up in the list?

>or all they all shit?
Oh, they're unequivocally all garbage. On the topic of the retroid, there's this deranged shill here who has been known to post for hours at a time, desperately defending the thing from any and all criticism by just making shit up about things he clearly doesn't understand, like he's reading off a script. It's completely bizarre, you never see that for any of the other system on a chip clones.

Playing PS1 on full bright for two hours dropped it from full to like 47% in my experience. So I would put it at good enough for a train, plane, or automobile, but if your planning on being without electricity for an extender period of time and playing all day its probably not gonna happen.

Forget about retroarch, it's utter shit that will have you working your ass off to play a rom, just for the sake of being an interface.
I'd recommend you Mesen for both the nes and the snes.

>> No.7037684

I prefer to use my phone + attached controller, and if I need to preserve battery on my phone, I just carry my previous phone as a handheld emulation machine.

Came here to shill this. I'm obsessed with mine. Since my PSP packed it in, it's been years and years of loading up retroshit on device after device (3DS, tablets, phones, PCs, the similar-but-less-good Retroflag GPi Case) only to never actually play anything to completion, and now I finally have something I really want to sink into retro games with. The D-pad is exquisite and the screen is nice and bright with colours that aren't super exaggerated. It boots up fast enough and the battery is decent too. Your mileage may vary depending on what personal preferences for controls and shit you have, or how willing you are to fuck around with basic Linux stuff, but for me, it's an almost perfect portable (I wish the fan inside was quieter/more stable, but thermodynamics are a bitch and to play PSP/DC stuff, the fan is a must). For me it was worth every penny, the same way a dedicated ereader would be great for someone that reads a lot. Now I just have to decide what colour replacement shell and buttons I want to get for it.

nes, snes and gb(c) emulator is just about flawless on n2dsXL. I use 'ultimate 3ds forwarder' to run gba games natively, so 100% flawless (as long as not wanky carts like that yoshi tilt one, since theres no tilt emulator).
I have had really really great results with ps1 on it too using 'PS1 Forwarder Creator 1.7.5' and changing a few settings. Theres a great thread on gbatemp with compatibility and what settings they used, but I personally have all Red alerts working 100% flawlessly with no slowdown. THPS2 and megaman8 both work perfectly too. I couldnt get Diablo to recognise inputs (same issue in retroarch though). Gran Turismo 1\2 both had scrambled graphics

It is rechargeable though. You're probably thinking of the GPi Case, which takes 3 AAs.

I had a retroid preordered but I cancelled it because of the delays and more information coming out about the issues it has. Also annoyed me that they kept adding new colors when they were still months behind with the already existing colors.

I really like the design though.

These lads know what's up. I've got the same one and it works great with Steam Link as well. I've got about 50gb of ROMs on my phone and play shit when I'm having a shit at home or waiting in the car for the missus - playing Gran Turismo 2 through the car's Bluetooth in Tesco's carpark is fun.
