It's short and odd, but feels great to play. I haven't played it since it was new though, so my memory is fuzzy about some things.

It has a lot of personality but it lacks a bit in the game mechanics department. felt like if they made a sequel it would be even better.

the rooms you dive into are quality. the bosses have good design except, oddly enough, the last one. might have been better had it not been rushed. worth playing to experience the various ways blocks of all sizes and numerical quantities (seriously this game has a ton of swirling mesmerizing coalescing cubes) can be platformed on.

3/5

the game is a 3/5 and worth checking out if you like platformers. generally, whatever problem you have with the game will only be apparent on repeated playthroughs. as a 3D entry for the Wario series it is massively disappointing, sure.

something to think about is how all those sub-levels could have made up the entire game with only a boss fight after you beat a certain amount of them; i.e., something like how Super Monkey Ball's stage transitioning where there is no attempt to connect each course with a physical structure. this would have been easy to do but robs the game of charm + contrasting worlds (main themed 'more realism' stage -> abstract sub level).

>>7003261
yeah the game engine is solid. there is a question on how lengthy a stage of platforming should be for Wario who makes smaller movements than Mario. another part the was interesting design was how WW got rid of puzzles for a straightforward platforming + brawling experience. i think this was actually a good move in order to keep the game fast-paced as 3D worlds consume noticeable time possibly displacing fun character movement efforts.

how would you do a sequel?

I don't think that the overworlds should be axed, the fire/ice and carnival ones were pretty fun. They just needed to give Wario a bigger moveset.

Make throwing a baddie with wild swing-ding an aimable attack.
Make hyper suction more powerful

What else would you add?

I was thinking being able to slide, having that Speed Booster kind of move from WL4, maybe the backward somersault jump from Mario 64.
For combat I would just want more moves out of grapples but mostly just more enemy types with more aggressive/smarter behavior.

The final boss is only shit in the english releases, jap original actually gives him different moves he uses at random, and he goes apeshit once he reaches 1HP.

Man the bosses in this game were so fucking weird, but in an interesting way. Something you wouldn't see from Mario.

Most Wario bosses aren't something you would see in a Mario game. The final boss of Wario: Master of Disguise (not retro, but whatever), for example,is a literal Princess Peach caricature.

>soulless
I hate when people misuse this word. I’m not one who gets easily triggered by buzzwords, but in this case I have to ask: how in the world could a game made only 10 years out from the first Wario game possibly be “soulless”? When a game or a movie has soul it’s usually because the creators of the characters are involved and really pour their hearts into it, and when something is soulless—for example, aging RPG series like Final Fantasy and Paper Mario—it’s usually because the original creators are no longer connected to it and the people in charge don’t understand what the originals great to begin with.

Sonic the Hedgehog is another example. Sure, most people would say Sonic Mania was fun, but does it really have soul like the first three games did? Or how about Mega Man? Star Fox? All the latest entries of these series are so far removed in years from the original games’ release, and anyone who worked on the originals is no longer involved enough to influence the new ones even indirectly.

TL;DR newer Wario games are fair game, but Wario World is still too close to the original game’s release to be truly considered soulless. It must have at least a little bit of soul.

Because it was rushed like a lot of Gamecube games.
