I really miss them bros... Capcom royally fucked them over, same for Enix.
Pretty sure they only own like two games out of everything they've made.

How exactly did Capcom and Enix fuck them over? Do they have the rights to the games or something?

>> No.6756993

>>6756964
Capcom hired them to make two games that bombed hard. This put a huge burden in Treasure's shoulders.
Also, Square-Enix owns some ip's they made, which was the subject of a supposed lawsuit between Treasure and Enix over who owned the Mischief Makers and Rakugaki Showtime characters.
The fact that those two games haven't been re-released recently makes it obvious that Enix won.
And we all know how petty Square Enix is with characters they own, but came from a collaboration game/game made by another dev who they published.
Not only that but their most well known IP isn't even theirs despite them listing it in their Twitter bio. Gunstar Heroes only got two fucking games.

Were the games panned in reviews? Or just bombed in sales? What I find weird is that they not only made one games but also the sequel, in a short span of time. Maybe the game wasn't a blockbuster hit, but it was successful in its particular niche (the japanese fans of the anime series the game was based on).
Even if the games bombed and Capcom lost money on it, Treasure probably got paid in advance for the development work, I'd assume.
Treasure still has some IPs they're sitting on that they could revive, such as Bangai-O. As far as I know, they are 100% the owners of it, and the games got a cult following. I think it's been like 10 years or more since Bangai O Missile Fury was released in XBLA and was never re-released.
A Bangai O deluxe package that contains the original N64, Dreamcast, NDS and XBLA games would be ideal and they don't really need to work that much, just port the games.
Instead they do the sporadical Ikaruga re-release every once in a while.
I think most of them are currently working at different companies, Treasure is like an independent collaborative that every once in a while get together and do something.
Personally I think their non-retro efforts are as valid as their retro ones, but the retro ones will forever be more iconic: Gunstar Heroes, Mischief Makers and Ikaruga are going to be immortalized as games people will keep recommending from Treasure for a long while.
And for those who want to dig more, the slightly lesser known games, but that hardcore fans claim are the best of the company, like RSG, Sin and Punishment, Alien Soldier will keep the Treasure legacy alive. Their weirder games such as Silhouette Mirage, Rakugaki Showtime and Light Crusader will also always have an even more niche following.
Yuyu Hakusho I'm sure was not a blockbuster but probably did alright for Sega between some sales in Japan and Brazil.

In all honesty I just hate how they don't own most of the original games they made.
Mischief Makers is only playable on the N64 and who knows who the fuck owns it. Rakugaki Showtime got a PS3 digital re-release, which you'd think would only have Square Enix at the copyright info, but nope, going to the PS Store listing and translating shows you that Treasure owns a part of it.
I'm pretty sure that this means that Treasure owns the characters but Square owns the rest of things (scenario, program and music).

That is interesting. Rakugaki Showtime was always said to have been pulled out of the market because of Marina and the copyright issue with Enix. But who knows how true is that, as far as I know, Rakugaki Showtime isn't even that rare to find, maybe it's just a limited release, like Bangai O on N64.
Maybe people made up all this bullshit and Enix isn't even aware of Marina in it, lol.
But as for Mischief Makers, yeah, I think Square-Enix must be the owner, actually.

>> No.6757472

I don't think having the rights to Mischief Makers or Rakugaki Showtime would magically save the company. In fact, that people is talking about all the Treasure "unused" IPs is already a problem because Treasure strenght in their prime was coming with great new ideas with every release. They only started doing some sequels in the GBA era, as their slow decline came with the new century.

That some hardcore companies like Treasure (among others) are having such problems doesn't speak positively about current gaming.

>> No.6757505

>>6757191
I have no clue if the supposed Enix vs Treasure lawsuit actually happened, but what is fact is that Rakugaki was pulled from stores quickly.
Square owning Marina and co. makes me so depressed. Those fucking cunts own so much good shit and they never use them. Look at Mario RPG and Xenogears. The former only got a song remix in Fortune Street and the shitty Smash Mii Costume, while the latter got added to a FF gacha game and was used to promote a dead online mecha game Square made.

I just want a fucking re-release like they did with Ikaruga, emulating is mostly a crapshoot and using the original hardware with it's overused anti-aliasing makes me sick. It's clear M. Makers was a one time thing considering the storyline and how Clancer is just one of many planets Marina and the prof. helped.

Yes, I agree that it would be great if they would rerelease their games, because a lot of them are not easily avaliable. I was saying that it's a shame that they can't have a new original idea after the new century unless is famous IP (Astro Boy, Bleach, etc) or a sequel.

>> No.6757592

>>6757572
Yeah after their "golden period" of new ip's they only made licensed games in the '00's. Astro Boy, Bleach, Wario World... And some sequels.
Wonder why they never made something new afterwards.

Yes, and Sin & Punishement 2 was a good sequel too. Gradius 5 was fine but they were invisible there; you couldn't tell it was a Treasure game.

If you're a fan of 2d platformers you NEED to play Dynamite Headdy. It's an excellent game for the Genesis made by Treasure. Short and sweet, and challenging as well. It's a great fucking game man you gotta play it.
