It helps to realize that the rooftop snipers don't respawn once you kill them unless you get a game over and continue through password. So as long as you never die, you're good. The real asshole of this game is the pier levels with their sketchy platforming and the car chase sequences that seem designed to sap your health. I haven't figured out a way to avoid taking damage during those but I can minimize it. Rats are also kind of assholes.

I enjoy the clue collecting and figuring out where to go next by looking at mugshots and using basic Dick Tracy villain knowledge, although the last case it helps if you've seen the movie otherwise you might not know Big Boy hangs out at the Club Ritz.

Not as bad as people make it out to be.

I have, completely different style of game, like an arcade game that never was in arcades. It's quite fun but not as ambitious as the NES game. I never did beat it, though, so maybe I should do that.

The detective aspect was neat, but the bland platforming and boring combat kinda ruin it. I feel a game with Dirty Harry's first level world design and Dick Tracy's detective aspect with actual good gameplay would be damn fun.
