but I also wonder whether the team in charge of animations for character sprites were in close enough contact with the team responsible for fine-tuning the physics for kart movement. It would have been pretty easy for a group project to have started with a tight-turning drift in mind, then realized that either it was too hard for kids to do, or that building tracks with turns that tight was too hard, and to wind up with a ton of tight-turning sprites left over after the original vision changed.
