why did people think it was just as good as or better than 3rd Strike ? 3rd Strike kills it in every category.

You're wrong

>> No.6528579

I don't think it's better but it's one of SNK's best (and the best game they made that still qualifies for this board).

>> No.6528584

both MOTW and 3rd Strike are meme fighters.
Play Fatal Fury Special (or Real Bout Special) and Super Street Fighter II Turbo (or Street Fighter Alpha 2)

Maybe its not fair to compare the 3rd game in a franchise to a 1 off game but if Mark of the Wolves had 3 games then maybe it could be as good as 3rd Strike possibly but as it stands, no.

>> No.6528617

>>6528569
Almost no one thinks that and I'm a way bigger SNK fan than Capcom or SF. And MotW isn't even that great for an SNK fighter.

>>6528616
Lol.

Mark of the Wolves is a Fatal Fury game. It's like the 10th game in the series or something.

With an entirely new cast and mechanics but ok. Why wasnt the new generation any good when they had a million street fighter games before it?

>With an entirely new cast and mechanics but ok.
So like Street Fighter 3 before the balance updates started adding more of the old cast?

>> No.6528891

Who cares? Take the Real Bout pill today.

>> No.6528940

>>6528768
This. MotW isn't bad, but it's also not great comparing it to vanilla SF3 is about right.

What in the HELL are you talking about when Urban Champion exists.

Come on OP get on the Urbtrain and drop these kiddy series for BABIES.

Third Strike is more impressive, but Mark of the Wolves is more fun to play.

More fun to play in what way?

>> No.6529103

>>6529093
You want me to quantify fun? I don't know. I have more fun playing MotW than I do playing 3S. The moves flow better. They're more intuitive for me to pull off. The fighters have more character. I like the visual design better.

I was just curious. All the moves in MotW are made to be super easy to do so I get that. It's funny cause overall I like SNK fighters more than Capcom but SF3 always felt like a high point whereas MotW feels like a low point. Jennet is cool but the cast is so tiny and mostly not that interesting to me. Two Kim clones that are neither as good, Tzok is just lame and Rock is a neat idea but he just came off feeling boring.

>> No.6529125

>>6529117
My playtime is 90% Jenet and 10% Terry, so I can't really comment.

>> No.6529160

>>6529125
Makes sense and to me most of my play time in SF3 was Elena. And also to be fair I think all the Fatal Furies pale next to KoF, but that's partly my bias for team play and huge rosters.

>> No.6529491

Garou's a nice middle ground for people who thought SF3 deviated too far from SF2/Alpha. It also controls like butter and has a really nice rhythm.

You're dead to me

>> No.6530210

>>6528569
Typical SNKope. They can't deny that their decade old hardware was getting long in the tooth and the SNK was dying by 1999. Anyone who plays fightan knows Garou isn't that well designed.

>> No.6530314

>>6528616
This. If you compare MotW to SF3 NG, MotW blows it out of the water.

>nice rhythm
Which is to say, it's nice that there isn't a lot of "downtime," or instances that take control away from a player. The wealth of movement options probably helps. Even combos are strong by bigger virtue of hitting hard than by going on for days. Even the dumb shit like feint cancel loops are pretty modest. It's almost like the game is broken both ways, JDs are goddamn ridiculous yet there's no lack of incentive for aggressive gameplans with some of the ridiculous shit some characters are capable of, and that all of them are to some extent. And then there's shit like GETTING meter off the game's proto-FADCs, which is completely goddamn stupid and makes NO sense, yet at the same time, I never find it to outright fuck up the game and probably provides a necessary reward for doing something that involves hitting a button instead of siphoning JDs back into your life bar all day. Like, you could make a whole laundry list of stupid shit on the game from a theory level and go "that's stupid," "that doesn't make any sense," "I don't know WHAT they were thinking when they added this," but put it all together, and it inexplicably works.

>> No.6531310

>>6530497
This is a nice analysis. MotW a weird fluke that really shouldn't work as well as it does. But damn is it fun.

>> No.6531345

>>6531310
It's always been a game I wished worked much better than it does. But I'm glad it does have it's fans.

>> No.6531381

>>6530210
No one argues that SNK's hardware wasn't showing it's age by 99, what you're ignoring is that when it was new it was still years ahead of what anyone else was doing. The fact that their dated 10 year old hardware was still comparable to what required an entire new board from other studios says something.

>> No.6533590

Street fighter 3 has gay characters. The entire roster is just forgettable crap but motw might be worse. I dunno they both got a shit line up of boring nobodies.
