Why are the wario land games so underrated?

>> No.6499564

They're widely considered to be the best games on the Game Boy

why is Wario so motherfuckedly based?

No, but they are some of the greatest games on the system. I've never heard anybody bad mouth wario land.

>underrated
You don't seem to understand the meaning of that word. The Wario Land series is always praised.

Imo 2 in particular is underrated. The secrets are so fun and satisfying to find.

you can't die in 2 and 3......... i really dislike 2 and 3. Not fun at all.

The game isn't about avoiding death. It's just an action-adventure. Fun times for all. Some platforming but not the main focus, although there are some good platforming moments.

I've heard plenty of people badmouth 3, and I understand why
not having any abilities for such a long time is a pain in the ass
can't kill enemies, can't buttslam, can't crush blocks with your head, can't roll, can't do shit

>>6499557
Are they? I've only ever heard good things about it.

>> No.6500248

They're definitely underrated due to basically being stuck on handhelds, if they had done one on on the SNES people wouldn't shut up about it. I would kill for a 16-bit style Wario Land game with detailed sprite art.

I only played the first one as a kid and I loved it. Yeah you can abuse the diagonal jump but it's still fun.
The third one sucks. Can't die = no fun.

>> No.6500763

>>6500260
I don't like the third one that much but I really like the second one. Saying you can't die makes a game no fun is really limiting.

>> No.6500779

I played the VB one a few weeks back and loved it. It emulates really well and you don't even have to play in red or 3d.

The only Virtual Boy game worth playing, shame that's so many people never got to play it because it was on the fucking VB.
Ninty really should've re-released through the 3DSs virtual console

Wario Land 3 is the real ludo. Its exploration-based design and puzzles were amazing. A far, far better GBC Metroidvania than Shantae

>> No.6501309

If only first Wario wasn't as sluggish and slow, it'd be perfect
Also the 'you can't die' shtick from Wario 2 wears out after a while and takes out the chalenge

>the only
How about actually trying out some more? It is probably the best one, though[spoiler/]

I don't mind the gradual expansion of your moveset at all.
What does annoy me are how a game about the greediest motherfucker out there barely has any coin-collecting, with your counter maxing out at a meager 999, how stuff like backtracking or changing the time of day feels more like padding, that fucking golf minigame that feels especially insulting as a reward for collecting all the crayons, the even bigger "fuck you" that is the reward for the large coins and the fact that the game doesn't save how many of them you've already collected in a level so you have to pick them up all over again.

The "canon" route of getting the treasures is also pretty odd. You'd think that the one in the moon is the final treasure since it even got a room with an unique tileset but nope, it's some random one in a cave.

Most of the VirtualBoy games are good or decent, it's just the VirtualBoy itself is less than perfect and takes acclimating to. Most of the games pretty much don't do anything worthwhile with VR/3D gimmick, so you can pretty much just play them simplified to 2D in an emulator and not miss anything, short of Teleroboxer which is first person and makes the most it can with the gimmick.

Teleroboxer is pretty good

I kinda like how the design of these games is specifically to be inane and piss you off.
