Is there any way to actually play this game anymore? I mean normal 5v5.

Every server seems to be filled with bots, a few Russians with 300 ping or just some really sketchy server that will probably install malware on my PC.

What do you mean, normal 5v5?
As I remember, most servers used to be around 12 to 16 players, some were 8-10, others were even up to 24 I think.
Have you tried looking for some forums or interest groups on steam?

Anyone wanna 5v5? I've been messing around hosting for a few Goldsrc engine games recently

but there are still plenty of north american servers that are not deathmatch or huge team sizes - https://www.gametracker.com/search/cs/US/

It's not allowed to discuss 20 year old games here

Ha wrong fucker. The rules state we can discuss games on platforms preceding the year 2000, PLATFORMS!
The PC platform came out in the early 80s, and just to make it totally squeaky clean, Counter-Strike originated as a game on the Windows 9X platform which started with Windows 95! Counter-Strike therefore can be considered retro by the rules of /vr/.

See, this is what's fucked about the autistic rules. I understand why they exist. I understand why they need to exist. But I still hate it. CS 1.x is a goddamned retro classic, and no amount of spastic point scoring will change that.

PC doesn't count as a universal platform, you moron. Individual release dates apply for PC games.

This is why Gothic and Morrowind are allowed too, as stupid as it might sound.

That’s why I pointed out Windows 9X as being a platform. That’s a recognised platform in both the gaming and PC world, that its distinctly different to the modern Windows NT platform. If a game predates Windows XP then it must be retro.
