Haunted Castle is very hard.

SC4 and Sotn are easy. Japanese 3 isn't easy but easier than usa 3.

Cv2 is easy if you know what to do.

The latter half of IV is harder than 1, though it's still on the easier side of classicvania the difficulty is constantly undersold by certain autists. I would love to watch them 1CC from the castle onwards.

Yes! Another Castlevania thread.
I thought this topic would NEVER come up. Glad it's here. Hardest Castlevania is my un-dumped Castlevania Resurrection Dreamcast beta. It's also the best Castlevania solely because no one has played or cares about it.
But since it's not publicly available, the ranking for best Castlevania should be:
Castlevania - Order Of Shadows>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>everything else. If you think otherwise, you're a seething faggot. Stop projecting.

>> No.6288418

I decided to play through the Castlevania games. I never played any before. I have finishes 1, 3, 4. Skipped 2 because memes. And I am currently playing through Rondo.

Playing through 1 & 3 made me feel like was fighting the controls and limited movement rather than any difficultly the game gave me. I only started playing vidya in the late 90s so I probably just don't appreciate that stuff. Still found them enjoyable.

4 felt way smoother to play than the original trilogy, on the other hand the whip controls made the game way too easy. Rondo's controls feel absolutely sublime and I am enjoying it at lot.

Should I do the jump to SotN next or play Bloodlines next? Or any other suggestions?

Play the other 16 bit titles, Bloodlines and Dracula X just to get a feel for them. Once you're done with SOTN, play all the GBA (get the movement mod for Cotm) and DS games (get the touchscreen mod for DoS) as well. After that, give Adventure Rebirth a try.

The PS2 titles are cool, they're like DMC clones.

After that, you could play the N64 titles but I'm unsure how good they are. The Game Boy originals aren't that great, Adventure sucks, Adventure II is actually pretty good and Legends sucks. I think Kid Dracula fits in somewhere, but I'm not sure.

SCV4: never got to beat it, got as far as the swinging chandelier before I had to give it back

CV1: used to be hard growing up, now I just realize that it was a learning curve like so many other games of that era
CV2: piss easy when you know what to do, but this is the only game I know of that was designed to sell an issue of Nintendo Power as its supplement.
CV3: Ehh...not overly difficult, just long compared to its predecessors
CV Arcade: didn't beat it for what limited time it was at the arcade in the casinos but it sure was fun
CV...err the fighting game reminiscent of Soul Calibur 3? Yeah that one. Fun.

CV OOE: Not too difficult. Great story, but sad. Shanoa won, but she lost everything.

Easy there, champ my comment was meant to reflect how most later games even on NES were not like this. These were hard to beat until you "got" it. i.e. Time Lord, Bart Simpson games, first megaman.
As to your generalized point in the bigger picture I suppose you're right in that it goes for just about anything. Sure. Viewed this way, many things have had a flat curve for some time now.

My point is, hating on the games to me feels wrong, be they platformer style or metroidvania style. They're all pretty solid and pure VIDEOGAMES. A shame Konami cares about gambling bullshit now instead of actual games and art.

Different anon here. So it wasn't just me...

That's another way? The way I always did it is fool it into jumping up on one of the upper platforms. There's a 1 in 3 chance the AI will just stand there and attack air cuz it can't figure out that it's supposed to come back around to the lower level where you're at and attack you.

Ideally you should have an upward firing weapon on either of your characters.
If not...With holy water you can play a game of attrition coaxing it back an forth through the main area onto any of the 4 platforms as it chases you. It doesn't know not to walk over the fire so...yeah.
With dagger you're kinda fuct. Maybe hit it midair as it chases you...

I learned in general for enemies you can't go toe-to-toe with, you have to concentrate on staying alive and exploit this while making it chase you. That's how I figured out how to beat Home Alone 1.

I started playing 3 for the first time seriously since the mid 90s, I forgot how many bullshit parts there are. The ghost ship for example has a part where a pirate skeleton spawns on a platform and you only have a few frames to hit him before the knockback of his attack will throw you into a pit. Pretty standard, the issue is he spawns off screen so if you don't get far enough onto the platform he immediately respawns while you're still in the middle of your whip animation so you have even less time to attack again and you need to move forward while doing that just to keep the respawn from happening again. It's fun, unless you're completely familiar with spawning mechanics you can never feel safe for a second.

It's still probably my favorite game from the series, never cared for the 3d ones and SotN never did anything for me despite being a big metroid fan. It's a pretty fair game.

So there are "standard" passwords that you can find online but also unique ones that are generated depending on how many lives you had? So do these online passwords include some difficulty or is it gonna be what you chose in the options?

Me too, but recently it was revealed that Dracula never really had a 2nd form, the cookie monster from Castlevania 1 is not Dracula, but a complete separate entity known as "Curse of Man". Dracula "dies" when you give him the last blow and his head flies off (and his body separates). It's why Simon is looking for Drac's body parts in Simon's Quest.
So yeah, the final boss of CV1 is not Dracula. And Dracula didn't die.
Castlevania IV is like an alternate timeline where Simon actually killed Drac, as Curse of Man is nowhere to be seen (although Gaibon is sort of a homage to it).

>> No.6309861

So, I’m currently playing Super Castlevania 4. It’s frustrating, I die a lot. I also feel like I die most of the times because of my own annoying mistakes.
>dies from randomly jumping without realizing there’s a platform with spikes on top of me
>dies from falling through stairs not remembering you have to ”mount” the stairs with two directions from the d-pad
Shit is frustrating.

To be fair 4 does have some of the most frustrating moments in the series.
I've played all the games so many times that I no longer remember when I used to get frustrated, but doing some memory, I do remember dying on the later stages of 4 a LOT, which didn't happen to me with the other 16-bit era CV games.

Easiest to Hardest?
Well, for me it's....

Symphony of the Night
Dawn of Sorrow
Aria of Sorrow
Legends
IV
Adventure II
Bloodlines
Curse of Darkness
64
Rondo of Blood
Dracula X
Lament of Innocence
I
Harmony of Dissonance (this might be biased since after beating it I only played Hard Mode on other playthroughs)
X68000/Chronicles
III
Order of Ecclesia
Circle of the Moon
Adventure

And that's it. Never played Haunted Castle, CV Arcade, Legacy of Darkness, Kid Dracula, or Adventure ReBirth. I'd imagine a few people will question this list, but it's just how I feel towards the series, I've played through them all quite a bit, even Castlevania 64. I honestly wouldn't have a decent answer for anyone if they asked why I placed them the way I did other than what I already stated, it's just how I feel about them.
My #1 Favourite for Retro is CV4, just because it's so much fun to play.
Non-retro I'd say it's a tie between Circle of the Moon and Order of Ecclesia.

Accurate table. I didn't expect SOTN to actually be that easy, but I beat it before I beat any other Castlevania game. And I still look at my Simon's Quest cartridge in anger. Don't think that I'll ever finish it nor play it again
