Scarcity. There's just not enough of those things being made, whereas you can find a monitor or CRT TV with relative ease, even today.

What are you talking about? The OSSC hasn't had availability problems for years, certainly not since the chinks started selling them.

Soon as you move to flat panels it's better to emulate. Run ahead emulation and 9x scale of 240p games (to fit perfectly into 4k screens) make emulation the superior choice

To give a sincere answer as an ossc owner

- Paying for a CRT is optional
- Paying for a flat panel of any kind that will accept all the OSSC's modes, has 16ms input delay or less, and has motion handling that even approaches CRT levels is not. In fact, to get all 3 of those checkmarks will almost certainly cost hundreds of dollars on top of the price of the scaler. I'm looking forward to seeing if the 48" LG CX OLEDs with 120hz BFI this year will maybe be good enough to where I could use one in lieu of my CRT. If it is, it'll be over $1000, which is over $1000 more than my CRT cost.

The thing in OP's picture didn't even exist back then. Your options back then were CRT or nothing. Your options now are a CRT that you can get for free or less than $10 or the thing OP mentioned for over $100. What a stupid fucking argument
