Hard mode: no major titles, like Mario, Metroid, Castlevania, etc.

Switch. Minecraft. (Since you specified cart)
I’d be able to 1cc any retro title after a year. With a sandbox game and my imagination the possibilities are endless.

River Raid 2600 for me but nice choice you got there.

>> No.6013331

It has to be a game where you can always improve your skill set, no matter how many years have passed, and where randomness has a big part, so that every playthrough is new; it should not end and should not have a narrative because it would eventually feel stale and lose everything it was adding to the gameplay.
I think this anon is right >>6012132, for me NES Tetris is the perfect choice.

>> No.6013596

Why no CD consoles?
Do TG16 HuCards and Sega MyCards count?
I suppose I could cheat and use a flash cart or bootleg multicart, but if I'm to pick one specifically-on-cartridge game... Shining Force 2 (It's not my favorite but it's pretty long and has enough variables to be replayed and still be fun. Of course Chrono Trigger is probably a good choice for the same reasons. I would probably get sick of jrpgs and wish I'd brought Baseball Stars.

I'm really tempted to do something like this, not for life, but for a while, since i'm gonna start living on my on (and it's not gonna be easy) it might be a good exercise to build discipline and get used to the lack a comfort, plus reviving the good times that i'm only had acess to four games during childhood.
