Most of the levels are pretty short by today's standards, but you might have a rough time starting out. You can mostly get by the later levels with the enchanted/magic sword and hammer, though I found the throwing axe to be incredibly useful while playing through the remake. Just make sure to keep collecting the chalices, look out for life bottle upgrades, and head back to Dan's Crypt to heal between levels if need be.

It's honestly pretty easy overall. The only remotely challenging levels are Pools of the Ancient Dead and The Ghost Ship, and that's mostly due to the platforming.

The game is easy enough if you backtrack and get all the chalices, so you can get all the weapons and buy stuff. Endgame will be hard if you don't obtain the best magic sword, and recharge your lightning bolt.

Don't save and scum OP, really it's perfectly doable without it. If you're on a pinch just farm the crypt or gallows. But in the end I almost never used this method after a while, the game really is balanced in this aspect, just don't suck too much, take ALL the chalices and be aware of secrets. It's a great game, 2 a little less but still solid, the others don't exists.

lol seriously? Fuck off, it's objectively a faithful yet very shallow carbon copy. They even copied the camera, fucking hell you didn't improve nothing but at least the god fucking damn camera, why did they copy that too, why... fucking camera niggers, to be fair this matter kind of sucks at first, but you can get into it. MediEvil 2 on the other hand... the camera on that game is just fucked
