What's your favorite SNK fighter? For me it's Last Blade 2

>> No.5996996

It's not retro so I can't post it.

>> No.5997015

>>5996996
Neo Geo came out in the 90s so we can discuss Samurai Shodown V Special

>>5996992
And it's either this or KOF98.

>> No.5997024

KOF '02. It might not be the best KOF game, but I have fond memories of MAME with Kaillera back in 05-07 playing it with randoms.

>> No.5997049

>>5997015
But Atomiswave came out in 2003 so we can't discuss KoF XI.

For me Last Blade is the most "anime" of the bunch thus the most uninteresting and boring.

>>5996996
Same but i'll, KOF XI, to this day i still feel a "futuristic" vibe from this game, like it's the true evolution of KOF, i get this from the music, the HUD, backgrounds, and most important the mechanics.

Plus the roster is badass, Gai, Silber, Adelheid, Gato, Duck King, Tizoc, it manages to get a lot of my favourites.

Garou MotW.

>> No.5997130

>>5997049
Darn. Thankfully we can still discuss SSVS since it didn't come out on the Atomiswave.

I'm also adding Garou to this list. I forgot all about that.

This, its a wonderful game where everything just clicked. the music was great the engine played well, the characters were all entertaining. and best part. no bishounen faggots like KOF

>> No.5997210

>>5996992
I have no idea, I wish they made these games easier to play. Trying to emulate them is a total bitch. I got a couple of the FF collections on PS2 but playing with that controller is impossible. More obscure titles like Last Blade got no re-releases. They should just put the arcade perfect ports on Steam and just be done with it.

>> No.5997342

>>5997053
Last Bullshit is actually a lot more serious in tone than samsho but you still get niggas going sayan and summoning lightning

>> No.5997486

I love KOF '01. Is it ugly? Yes. Is the music entirely made up of like 5 different samples rearranged to basic drum loops? Yes. But something about it on an aesthetic level just feels really grim and industrial, like Ketsui or something, and I love it.

Art of Fighting 2 is also tremendous. The huge sprites, awesome sound direction, unbelievably hard AI, the based version of Geese that's in it, etc.

>>5997210

Dude, you have to be kidding. People have been emulating neo geo just fine in MAME or whatever else for like 20 years now. Unless you're the guy who started that "why is mame so hard??" thread

>> No.5997502

>>5997342
By "anime" he probably means the gameplay, not the aesthetics.

Though LB2 lacks air dashes, it has long as fuck combo strings especially if you use Speed.

>> No.5998012

>>5997486
Not that guy but last I tried of MAME was 6 years ago and every game was a black screen. I have no idea how that thing works. Put in ZSNES and everything you just click on and it plays, simple as.

Art of Fighting 3

>> No.5998031

are any of these retro fightans with great spritework fun at all in singleplayer?
I know fightcade is a thing but they are still limited to a fairly small pool of games

I mean it's all basic stuff but I find myself playing a lot of the older Fatal Fury and AOF games to kill time by myself. SNK was really good about creating settings and atmosphere so it actually does just sort of feel nice to just hope in and see South Town or that Mexican City now and again.

>> No.5998074

>>5998012
Then use fucking fightcade or something.

>> No.5998126

honestly? KOF '99
but I'm sure a lot of people will get triggered by that so I'll just say MotW or some shit

>> No.5998154

Absolutely not, playing fighting games in single player teaches bad habits and makes you into an eternal scrub.

>prefer 1v1 fighting games
>everyone only plays KoF
I always hate the idea of changing characters. I could always tolerate KoF, could never enjoy things like vs. games, but it's a real shame series like AoF and FF see no activity on fightcade and such.

I'm the same. There were a bunch of people on /v/ talking about setting up weekly FFS or LB2 casuals, could be fun since everyone's starting fresh. Check it out if you're interested.

>> No.5998754

>>5998739
Shit, that would be great. I'm not great so fightcade has always been kind of intimidating, I know games like 3S attract a lot of new players but I feel like these less popular games only have veterans still playing, so something like that sounds fun.

As a ZSNES user for most of my life, I can guarantee Bsnes is way better at everything. It even reduces a few frames of that disgusting input lag every emulator has, to the point it makes platformers actually playable.

I got my first practice playing RBFF2's arcade mode before I started facing other people in Supercade and doing pretty well. Don't listen to noobs like >>5998154 , going in with an analytical mindset and discovering which X's beat which Y's is the biggest thing to scrape through when you're first starting a game and arcade mode works just fine for that. At least with the older ones with genuine RPS interaction. Newer games that tack on recovery frames to non-metered specials just shy of making your character flash red and saying "DO YOUR TRAINING MODE COMBO NOW" probably don't apply.

>> No.5999617

Sorry but I have to point out how no one ever seems to want to play TLB2. It's highly regarded and whatnot but actually pull it out and people just brush it off.

>> No.6000459

Last Blade has a weirdly depressing soundtrack for a fighting game.

>> No.6000464

>>5999617
I think it's one of those games people claim to like simply because it makes you sound like a hardcore player.

Not to say I'm any better, my experience with the series comes from Hibiki in CvS2 and watching sets on fightcade.

>> No.6001887

>>5999617

It's so much fun though. 1v1, single plane so no gimmicks, mid length combos and a decent pace, great cast, and still about as easy to pick up as samsho in a casual atmosphere. I'm surprised more people don't play it.
