Because a different version exist, and is the original. When this game came around pretty much the only version westerners had, finding out there was a different version of this game with better music and voice acted cutscenes, as well as a bonus character, was kinda infuriating to know we would never play it for at least a very long time.

That's not to say Dracula X(SNES)/Vampire's Kiss is a bad game, or even completely inferior. It had arguably better graphics at the very least and had different but still interesting levels, but at the end of the day it still lacked features so of course it's going to be considered the butchered port.

People played it because they heard Akumajō Dracula X: Rondo of Blood was good, thought this was the same game, and because they were sheep were convinced this was a good game. Then years later when they realized their mistake, that Rondo was a different game with the same guy and played through rondo and then had to reevaluate it their opinion on it they no longer had that "this is a good game" filter so that's how you get the polarized response.

RoB was a holy grail for quite a while.
This was seen as a bastardization of it and basically an insult to injury (rather than a separate, different game, which it is).
Later we played RoB and, although it was pretty damn good, it wasn't actually better than CV1 or CV3. Many people stopped deifying it and played the SNES game with an open mind. But some people never moved on from the nineties and have a warped view where they believe RoB to be better than it is and the SNES version worse than it is.

Dracula X is like the perfect version of the NES games. Tight, rich, tough, and definitely worth playing. It's only tie to RoB is in some of the visuals/sound.
I suck at it but still try it out because it's awesome.

Agree. DX SNES is an excellent duck-n-strut. Enemies spawn in accordance with screen space and scrolling conjointly with rhythmically metered platforming sections, in true Castlevania form. Compare that to Rondo where enemies have basic spawn points on the stage itself that repeat ad nauseum and will often bring your gameplay to a standstill to fight one thing. The SNES game is far better imo.
