Im sure it sucks if you wanted the management part to come back but I love the sequel for having some really interesting, non standard platforming. Movement options feel kind of jank until you get used to them then you have a great time gliding and diving all over the place. Plus you get an actually useful shield that is not just a defence number.

It's fun, but it's nothing special. 4/5.

This game really is more than the sum of its parts. The action-platformer sections are decent but don't particularly standout during an era when some of the best games in this genre were released and of course the city-building section lacks the depth you would see in an actual sim. But it all comes together nicely to serve the game's narrative of a god who is guiding his people to prosperity. In the end, you truly feel as if you have become an ActRaiser.

The sequel is better.

If there were a game with a deep simulation/quest mode and a challenging action mode together, then it could be better than either. But instead we have the deep atmosphere and breadth of activity in the first game, the deep combat action in the second game, and the generally good audiovisual elements of both. In no case do we get all of that in one game (at least not in this series).

YES! When that plague hits the one town you are down with them and gonna save them. That shit is GOLD

>> No.5961004

I prefer the 2nd one. Once you get used to the controls there's no feeling like flying through the levels cutting down enemies with your sword and magic attacks.

Mediocre platformer + mediocre city builder does not make a good game. The sequel is actually good.

>> No.5961339

I wish the Master could have had just a few more ways of attacking with his sword in the first game, he has a perfect moveset in 2, but I'm too much of a scrub to get particularly far in it.

the city building part was more enjoyable than the platforming part. it's a good game but that aspect made it feel imbalanced to me. definitely not a masterpiece
