im always wondering how sentimentalists towards old consoles manage to keep everything playable
like, how can you have so many consoles and be able to play games on each without cluttering things up or taking up too much space?

There are all sorts of cheap and easy AV switching options, especially for consumer standards like composite cables.
I have a bunch of consoles, most with RGB cables though, so I actually use an extron matrix switcher.

i'd say retron is the halfway mark
you can have all the authentic carts for the games but the console itself could be argued as the simple translator between the games and the tv
either way it still fuels the conflict between saving space and actually having all the physical software in your hands

>> No.5883543

>>5882619
I get that they're using Retron 5's in the store for game displays and demos, but why run them through a hdmi-to-av adaptor and crt? I'm actually kind of impressed Gamestop went out of their way to get actual, decent crts. This is just one store and for a promo video too, so I doubt the others will all have that. Interesting move they're doing, trying the gaming lounge/play experience but this isn't gonna save them

>> No.5883571

>>5883535
Retrons run hte games using emulation, it dumps the cart you use and runs it internally, it isnt running on "cloned" hardware.

>> No.5883572

>>5883535
It's just a really shitty emulator box. Nothing wrong with emulating, but just use your goddamn PC or one of the other million devices you already own capable of emulation.
Also retron won't work with flashcarts anyway.

>>5883510
Nice false dichotomy, retard. You can emulate without needing a shitty retron. You can also play on real hardware with a flashcart/modchip and not pay for games anyway. Hell, you can even hook your PC up to a CRT and emulate that way as well.

It violates the licenses of multiple open source emulator projects. Just emulate on a PC or use real hardware.

Simple. Pull out the console when you want to play it, keep it in a closet otherwise. I don't hop between consoles/games so frequently that I need more than one or two out at a time.
Pros of being an RPG gamer and/or playing hard platformers that take a lot of time to get good at like castlevania 3.

>> No.5883950

>>5883938
that kind of situation is precisely what i want to avoid
i want to have the largest amount of physical consoles possible available at once with the least amount of effort in switching between them
so if i decide to stop playing banjo-kazooie and start playing mario galaxy, all i'll need to do would be to press a few buttons and insert the correct software

>>I have to unplug a power cable and multi-AV cable that is compatible with multiple nintendo systems in order to play a different game
that part is tolerable
i wanted to add in my previous post that i also want my setup to have little complexity and setup cost but i couldn't articulate it

the reason why i want to do all this is cause i have a habit of sticking to one console for a period of time and forgetting about the others due to the need to swap out all the connections, small as it may be
so i figure if i can find a setup that simplifies switching everything while maintaining physical playability and minimizing potential costs, i can play the games i want to without needing to put anything away
also the actual task of putting all this together is something of a fun engineering puzzle to me, so there's that

It's very easy, I have probably 15-20 retro consoles and it takes up 12 feet of my basement. Good storage, good switchers and it takes care of itself. Also to avoid the "pawn shop chic" look use flashcarts and storage drawers.
