do you miss the N64? the clunky controls, the shit analog controller which didn't last more than 3 months, the expensive cartridges, the mono sound, the fog...? There isn't a single game on the N64 that is still fun to play today except F-zero X even with its glorious 32kbps sub-mp3 mono soundtrack

Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 were the only games I really sunk time into on the system. Back in those times I was a hardcore JRPG guy

as someone who grew up with the 5th gen, despite strong nostalgia i believe it to be the weakest post-crash generation of video games. the generations before had masterful 2D games, and the GameCube/PS2 had 3D games that were more fully realized, looked an order of magnitude better, and still hold up even today on a modern screen. the 5th generation is interesting more as a historical curiosity than anything else. not to say it had no good games, but the form they were presented in is so archaic and unrefined that it's not nearly as enjoyable of an experience as something from any other generation. there were a handful of good 2D games though, to be sure, but it was clearly not the focus of the market, and it was over a decade too early for an independent movement. other than SM64, most worthwhile games have been ported or remade in some way. arguably including SM64, as the Wii VC version has a doubled resolution and clean video output.
