Is it truly the best whip based Castlevania?

>> No.5685705

no but it's alright

>> No.5685715

It's the cancer that killed Castlevania.

1 and 3 on Famicom? Super IV? The X68000 game? All classics. But then Rondo had to come and fuck it all up. And SotN was just the final nail in CV's coffin.

Rondo was the beginning of the end. Doesn't help that it's associated with SotN either.

I like how this board went from mindlessly hating 4 to mindlessly hating Rondo.

Possibly. 1, 3, and X68k are all really good as well, though.

Maria is BASED cute and funny mode for real gamers. Please refrain from posting about this game if you don't know such obvious facts.

People who get this butthurt over videogames have no business playing videogames.

Go collect goddamn stamps you insane/retarded faggots.

Also, OP, possibly, but only because of music and visuals.
It's slightly edged out in gameplay, IMO, by Super IV and Bloodlines. Also, Richter is damn cool.

I personally like Shark X68K better, though Rondo has its strong points. I still think III is the best by objective criteria though.

They are classic games though.
The other guy was just being exaggerated anyway, Rondo is also part of the classic series and a good game. It's very different from previous games but stuff fits in the classic CV series.
SOTN is like a different series altogether.

>> No.5687298

I agree with the other guy. Rondo took too many liberties with the CV formula and IMO is the worst console Classicvania.

Only PoR and DoS had them afterwards, so not that much of a cancer there
>too many (unskippable) FMV cutscenes
If you think that's too many I would like to hear your opinion on Metal Gear Solid
>too much emphasis on exploration/secrets instead of platforming, worst level design of any Classicvania
You haven't played Haunted Castle, or the gameboy Castlevanias, or Simon's Quest? Those are classicvanias too.
>casualized gameplay with stair-jumping,
You must be the only player in the world who enjoyed being defenceless on stairs.
>item crash
Not as helpful as it seems due to cost efficiency.
>the backflip
barely had any use
>removing whip upgrades
as opposed to having the whip ugraded after like, what? 5 candles?
>and double/triple shot
Already a thing.
>includes an easy mode for shitplayers (Maria)
She also takes more damage.

Kojima's art is also anime-style, just not generic TV anime like those games.

>If you think that's too many I would like to hear your opinion on Metal Gear Solid
Just because MGS has more/longer cinematics doesn't excuse RoB's FMV shit.

>You haven't played Haunted Castle, or the gameboy Castlevanias, or Simon's Quest? Those are classicvanias too.
I have. HC and the GB games have more challenging level designs.
Also, SQ isn't a Classicvania, it's more proto-Metroidvania.

>You must be the only player in the world who enjoyed being defenceless on stairs.
It's one of the aspects which make Castlevania Castlevania.
You sound like part of the cancer that helped kill Castlevania.

>cost efficiency.
Which doesn't matter since Rondo showers you with hearts all the time.

>as opposed to having the whip ugraded after like, what? 5 candles?
The point is you can't do no-upgrades runs in Rondo when you start fully upgraded.

>barely had any use
It's useful for evasion due to the i-frames, for example the knights with big swords near end-game.
Moreover, there's a speedrun tech where backflipping + whipping is faster than just walking normally.

>Already a thing.
Where are the II/III tile drops in Rondo? Oh wait, there aren't any.

>She also takes more damage.
She also one-shots anything with Guardian Knuckle, has a double jump, floatier air movement, can zoom all over the place with a roll/slide and has better subweapons than Richter (aside from Bible, of course).

Face it lad, Rondo is shit.

Nah, even if I agree with many of your points, the game is still good. Just not nearly as good as people made it out to be due to being "the Japan only holy grail of Castlevania that westerners can't play" for so long.

>> No.5687726

>westerners can't play for so long
Nigga, I was playing that shit on Magic Engine in 98 or 99, when they added CD support. The game came out in like 94 or something. Five or six years isn't too long of a wait, especially for a game most of you didn't even know existed before Thursday last.

>>5685715
>>5685763
All that may very well be true, but was it still fun to play? Be honest.
For example, I think LttP was the beginning of the end for Zelda. It was the start of the story fag Zeldas and the beginning of expanding-playpen style of gaming in the series. I acknowledge that. I still liked it, tho. Hated all the ones after, especially the oracle games.
