Huh, I guess it really is the Master System. So was it just called "Sega System" a couple random times, and that's what spurred that one turbo-autist proclaiming it's the official title? Anyways, the more I look into it, it really looks like it was mostly called Master System more often, by far.

He was likely upset that people still use "PSX" as an acronym even though the Playstation never reached the actual market with an "X" in its name-- you'd see topics all the time "nobody said PSX" and he'd get blown the fuck out every time... so he went and found some obscure trivia that Sega in its clumsy early steps hadn't adopted Master System, and spun it as a sort of AH-HA GOTCHA attempt: if you call it the Master System instead of the Sega System, you CAN'T call a Playstation a PSX.

But at the end of the day, he's still retarded.

Sega System and Master System were both TM at the same time. The Master System was always known as that, it was always on the power base as such.

The 'sega system' was more of an idea. The idea was if you buy something for a "sega system" it will work in the future or possible be backwards compatible (really trying to fight off the game crash). It also helped differentiate the droves that called ALL video games "nintendos". Pretty sure the patent office that you can google shows Sega having descriptions of what their idea was.

This patent and idea is why the Genesis/MD had so much stuff work directly with the SMS and in reverse, with very little adapters. They went a bit too far with the CD and 32x though.

To be 100% clear, I am not stating the Sega Master System was ever called a "Sega System". Just that something called Sega System actually existed, and is referenced everywhere in the 80's and early 90's.
