I couldn't get into it back then-- the 2.5 3D visuals were really ugly to me, compared with the pre-rendered sprites. Additionally, Zippo having no option to be turned off just killed what desire I had to play, since it was Tomba now having his own Navi but with a retarded helium voice.

May be biased because it was the first Tomba I played, but yeah. Sure it's a bit jarring, I don't like the music either, but the rest of the game is pretty decent.

One of my favorite things in all of gaming is the "panic mode" song that plays throughout the game at various points. When I first played it and heard that song I was actually a little scared, the music did such a good job.
