Just beat this cunt after 20 fucking years. Made me its bitch at times. About to jump into Shinobi 3.
General shinobi thread I guess.

Shinobi arcade is bullshit solely because it arbitrarily locks you out from continuing on the last stage

>> No.5414386

Shinobi on the all powerful Master System is far better than it is on the NES.

Shinobi MS port is JUNK

It's clearly inferior to the arcade, but it's a great port all around. The NES port is junk. The NES version has worse textures, less colors, and no vertical scrolling.

Don't forget to play the best one. And both Shadow Dancers after that.

Maybe it is, maybe it's not. But, man, when someone was advancing through those last levels, *e v e r y o n e* on the arcade stopped to see it. Those where the days.

It was the first game I remember beating. Albeit I used infinite shurikens and got Naoko squashed at the end.

admittedly I used a walkthrough for a few levels and final boss and got the good ending.

>> No.5415434 [DELETED]

Its way too easy to 1cc by default, you have to put it to level 3 and limit your lives, then it's closer to Shinobi 1 and Shadow Dancer arcade. Don't know what they were thinking with all the extra lives, so stupid.

>> No.5415495

>>5415434
Most Sega games on the Genesis had really modular difficulties, with stuff like life bars or number of lives being adjustable. I really liked that. Wish more games of the era went with it.

>> No.5415505

shinobi is a horrid series, every game was crap.
crap graphics, crap gameplay, crap sound, crap everything.
but i guess i just discribed 99% of MD games.

>> No.5415509 [DELETED]

>>5415495
That comes from arcade boards having the same settings. But that's not the problem, it's that a lot of Genesis (and console games in general) shower you with extra lives so even if you pick the lowest possible setting, you will still get too many extra lives over the course of the game. You can't start without extra lives in Shadow Dancer, but if you could then you could still very easily collect over 16 during the course of the game. The extra lives are avoidable thankfully, but it's just a lack of balance and thoughtless design imo.

One of my favorite video game series. Revenge might be my favorite of them all but I love III too. The arcade and GG games are great too, and the PS2 games and 3DS game don't get enough love.

>> No.5418912

>>5414378
it has really cheap enemy placement that's trial and error.

>> No.5418921

>>5415408
this. revenge is harder mostly from the bottomless pits. hell even on the harder difficulties and sword only, shadow dancer isn't that much harder. levels only add a few more enemies in some places and bosses only get more health. plus the shurikens are basically useless by the end.

>> No.5418925

3 is a cakewalk compared to revenge but i still think it's a better game.

>> No.5418987 [DELETED]

>>5418912
There's hardly anything cheap in the game, and if you don't like trial & error why are you even playing Shinobi? Whole series is about that. You run into a point in a stage where enemies catch you off guard and you die, then you think about how to beat them and clear that part no problem.

>> No.5420694

Sega developed both the SMS and NES versions themselves. The latter was published by Tengen and it is a North American exclusive with no Japanese release. What's notable is that the NES version is twice the size of the SMS one, 256k versus 128k.

did you play the JP version that had Spider-Man and Batman in it?

>> No.5421317

How come shinobi 1 wasn't ported to the Genesis? Master system version is decent enough but still not up to the arcade version.

>> No.5421461

This, 3 is the best in the series and its still easy to beat even in hardest. 1 is still good but incredibly hard. I still play 3 like every other week.

You gotta play Shinobi III in 6-button mode to get the fullest effect.

I believe so. I bought a multi cart off amazon which has 112 games built in. Batman and spidey were present. Have an official multi cart with shinobi on it dont think i ever got that far on it.

Sega probably either thought "what's the point" or Revenge was in development then. Hasn't stopped one fan from trying, however: https://www.dailymotion.com/Le_Furet/videos

>> No.5422531 [DELETED]

>>5421461
1 isn't hard, it's just trial & error. The hardest part is the stage 3 boss but there's an exploit you can do to make it easy. Though even without the exploit it took me under 10 hours to get a 1cc of it, not bad at all. 3 feels boring and slow paced in comparison despite letting you run and all those extra moves.

Default controls
A: Ninjutsu
B: Attack
C: Jump

Six-button mode
A: Guard
B: Melee attack
C: Jump
X: Ninjutsu
Y: Shuriken throw
Z: Shuriken throw

Normally, in order to guard, you have to hold down the attack button, and to use melee attacks, you either have to be very close to an enemy or breakable object, or be totally out of shurikens.

To enable the six-button mode, highlight Options on the title screen, and hold the Mode button down on controller 1. On controller 2, hold Up and C, then press Start on controller 1. The "Options" header changes to "Option," letting you know six-button mode is active.

FUCK the double jump in Shinobi III. I fucking hate how finicky the timing is.

>> No.5422802

You just press jump again at the height of your first jump, right? I didn't think it was too bad, but the timing's not as lenient as Revenge.

It's consistent. You just have to be at the apex of your first jump.

i remember when i beat that game i kept getting my ass kicked by the last boss, then when i was on my last life i figured out the strategy to beat him and got the good ending, turned out you could just jump directly upward to dodge the hair throwing move.

didn't even know you could guard . Funny how some old games treat some control meathods like cheats.
>>5425982
I couldn't get into the rhythm of the boss attack and always took damage. had plenty of lives so I just used the suicide ninjitsu plenty of times
