It could bruteforce 3D in software, but the games would often run very slow or didn't have much going on.

If that's your example, then It definitely shouldn't do 3D.

What is that from? Doesn't look like that tech demo port from Romhacking.

And it never could. It's nothing but fancy sprite-manipulation and shading to make you think it's 3D.

"Blast Processing", indeed.

That's more impressive of the processor than being able to do 3d in hardware you fucking spastic.

It's actually from a cancelled game called ResQ, it was being developed by Psygnosis.

Here's a few other demo's of polygon hames on the Genesis.

On that note, does anybody have a mirror to that? The original link has been dead for ages.

SNES Race Drivin':

The genesis ports are slow. But they do get points for being arcade accurate.

Genesis/ MD game demolishes the SNES version. I use to enjoy playing Hard Drivin' on the Genesis, once you get use to the framerate, it's playable. It felt like a prototype for a 32bit racer.

The quasi 3D engine that Domark developed for the Genesis/ Mega Drive game is really quite impressive for a 16bit title with no additional enhancements. It is something that they developed for a Formula One game for the Mega Drive, but it seems to be more polished here. It displays a lot of pre calculated flat shaded polygons and some sort of pseudo- sprite scaling for various background objects and the opposing bikes. Quite a few opponents can be on screen at once and the game moves at a good pace.

The SNES game engine tries to keep up. But doesn't quite. It is fullscreen, unlike the Genesis game, and has more colours. But has less in the way of faux scaling sprites and will throw out the odd flat shaded polygon object. But nothing on the level of the Genesis/ MD game.

That's what all 3D is.
