Left over assets and unused areas in Goldeneye's silo level indicate that at some point in development Goldeneye may have been intended to be a rail shooter, but Rare has never commented

Maybe it was confirmed. I'm not sure, I used to be really keen on reading into the Goldeneye mysteries during the mid 2000s but the scene mostly died and I lost interest, so I'm not really up to date.
In that case, one thing I do know that was never confirmed is the roof of this silo (couldn't find a better pic).
Switch from a gun to unarmed, or equip general ouromovs key and press B, and the roof of this silo will open...
You were probably meant to stop a missile launch at some point, but if that's the case why does the roof even open? That would make sense if you were supposed to launch the missile, but why would bond launch a missile?

Goldeneye is filled with really odd shit left over from the beta, and rareware so so ass-backwards secretive at the time that we'll probably never really know.

This mystery is pretty much solved. You'd go to the docks and take the green boat to the island to destroy the gun so that you could safely take off from the runway later on.
It was probably scrapped because it would have been too intense for a first level. You can still replicate it with gameshark codes and get the boat moving

That's not a mystery. It was supposed to be a super hard secret maze that possibly led players to a room that told them to call a number and say a word. If they did they would get a prize, but soon after the game came out hackers found a way to see all the sprites in the game and found it without actually completing the level so the competition was ultimately scrapped.

After watchin pannekoek's videos about textures and how the game handles camera angles, I noticed that was just the resting place for the fixed camera. It always starts at that height in the foyer.
Other areas with random/ weird walls protuding, ledges appearing or so on are also just camera spots. If you go on first person mode wherver there is a fixed camera and stare at it you can see the level takes on some odd geometry. Guess they just wanted to add some flavour to this one.

yes... I think it was Aonuma that said they didn't believe that they could pull the "together".

There're a lot of patches in Ocarina of time... since the medallions used to be key items to enter dungeons and stuff... since they removed it, you had to play musics to open dungeons and stuff.

I'd love to play all of the betas, just to see how much it changed from the original vision/director...

Child Link wasn't supposed to be in the game, there's even one heart piece in Gerudo's... and that's why the Gerudos pass out, but don't die when you hit then with a bow... I deduced that they were supposed to be knocked down with the slingshot.

They do those "charity events" though, I'm sure some of them think that's actually doing something for some people. Keep in mind that the idea of "charity events" fools a lot of real adults in the respectable world - no, running a marathon does not help people in need, it's unrelated.

What the speed runners should do if they want to be taken seriously is first of all set aside an amount of time, let's say 30 hours a week, which you are not supposed to exceed. That's almost 4.5 hours a day, which is very generous to be devoting to any hobby, or you can do 9 hours every two days. While enforcement would be an issue, they could at least have the rules in place and the cheaters would know they were cheating. Because the way it is right now, it's all about pushing and incentivizing people to throw their lives away all for a little bit of attention, a little spot in the limelight. And you know these people don't have stellar social lives, it's basically the weakest people in society that are getting baited into this and before they know it they're 35 and have no discernible skills/accomplishments apart from a few world records on kirby and some japanese puzzle game noone ever heard of.

So a time limit would clean up their image quite a lot. Yes you can cheat, but it's a very loserly type of cheating. They might even take it further and insist that you must have employment or a steady source of income in the past 6 months to qualify but I don't know about this bit.

It brings in people to give money. No one is going to give $500k to a guy on YouTube for standing in a room talking about video games, barring ad revenue. Same thing with carnies, no one is going to give a carnie $10 unless they get to throw a bent dart at a balloon(or get a bag of weed from them). It's just a way to pay to get entertained, feel accomplished when they finally hand you a good dart/say they'll do something good with the money, and ultimately get to walk away with a fiberglass teddy bear or have your name mentioned in a video.

That being said I used to really like agdq, I got started watching them for that Mega Man X speed run. I was never into speed running before but I can blast through it in under an hour. I played that game every day after school between 94 and 96, eventually I ran out of paper to write my passwords for my current run on so I just started trying to beat the game in the hour and a half I had. I got it down so good I still had time to go out and throw a football through a tire swing. I honestly didn't even know people did things like that competitively til a few years ago. I can appreciate the effort and the techniques, the muscle memory. Fuck, I blogposted AND redditspaced.

Cancer charities are bullshit in general, how many middle men between Joe Citizen giving $5 and someone getting a cure? Even the final result after all "overheads" is still spent on some asshole professors BMW because even those noble, noble people gotta live in style.

Charities are bullshit in general anyway because people have a set dollar value on guilt, and if one charity takes that $ then the person doesnt feel the need to donate to some *other* charity. In other words, there is a certain amount that gets spent on charities every year, and them vying over it helps nobody.

For the tree, as was mentioned earlier, it may have been a tree meant for the Lost Woods. It's also been thought that maybe it was meant to be something a different Water Temple boss may have done and it was just never fully fleshed out. The former is probably more likely though.

For the bird it kinda just makes sense that they wanted you to have a regular spot in Castle Town to check the time, or they wanted to teach you about the time cycle since it's early in the game.

Yeah.

As far as I know at least half of the Shadow Temple is actually what Wind Temple used to be.

So the Forest Temple was never Wind temple, they just used the same medallion. I think that the Forest Temple was the place where the Master Sword was supposed to be sleeping. I don't think it used to be a dungeon at all.

That tree could be a mark that lead to the Master Sword and a Wolfos fight before acquiring it.

That would make sense with Zelda lore, the Master Sword is always in the florest...

And the Temple of Time was supposed to be the Light Temple... that Time Travel stuff was added after Miyamoto step in and changed the game for it to have Child Link.

So the Master Sword was never supposed to be on the Temple of Time (Light Temple).

Sure, I had a long description typed out for you but I got the captcha wrong and it was deleted so I'll be brief...

People once (maybe they still do, idk) postulated that there was a casino level in development, but scrapped before the creation of a level even took place.
Unused assets of interest include money and a gold bar. Both have to be gamesharked into your inventory, can not be picked up or interacted with. There is also the micro video camera, it's a little surveillance camera that you can gameshark into a level, then pick it up, equip it, and throw it like the tracker you throw onto the chopper in Frigate.
Also, Xenia's line in jungle is "This time the pleasure will be all mine"

Caveman put up with Chibi until his dopey reddit humor and observations started to get on his nerves, and started putting on the nonverbal warning signs of "you're annoying, buzz off." Chibi didn't get the picture from more subtle and face-saving rejection cues, so he had to just come out and tell him to shut up.

I feel like Chibi sympathizers are those kids who tried way too hard to ham-fistedly make people into their friends and could never understand why people didn't like them and see themselves in Chibi.

You actually need to change the control scheme to "Expert" on the menu screen. It's actually game changing, since it lets you move in all 8 directions while you're in aim mode (in standard scheme, it only lets you move sideways, which is stupid and makes the game actually harder)

>> No.5100464

Expert basically turns it into a twinstick FPS, where the left stick is the C-buttons.

As a child I played through the entire thing in standard mode. The aiming mode doesn't matter all that much, as ordinary gameplay can be done with 90% auto-aim and in boss fights you cannot move forward/backwards anyway.

>> No.5100468

>>5100464
>The aiming mode doesn't matter all that much, as ordinary gameplay can be done with 90% auto-aim
Depends, there's many parts where you need to shoot a bunch of enemies from afar, auto-aim doesn't help, and being able to actually move around (to hid behind walls or dodge) makes the game a lot more playable than just being able to move sideways. You can toggle between aim-mode and normal mode to move around I guess, but it's better to just be able to move freely while on aiming.
I also played the game as a kid without knowing this though, it's doable, but less enjoyable.

Thing is, if I recall correctly Chibbi (the left guy) wasn't even invited to sit on the couch. It was a late night run and he got away with just sitting down, grabbing a mic and doing unasked commentary on the game. He also went for the usual "twitch humor" at the time (X confirmed for Y, X Hype, etc) and cave was just not a fan of that. Instead of picking up that his "jokes" and comments weren't landing he just kept going hoping for a laugh, it's rather sad. Of course then viewers smelling the cringe potential started teasing him with comments until some mad lad got the idea to donate to make him do jumping jacks to annoy cave further.
And if anyone feels bad for him because he's just an autistic kid embarrassing himself on stream: Don't be. He was later found to cheat in his own speedruns and proceeded to lie about it when find out, until he was so cornered that he could do nothing but admit it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1BBiPeDXM0

Another quirk : I completed OoT recently and at the final screen (with Zelda and young link in the courtyard and The End on screen) I put my controller down and started reading something, then my Scarecrow's Theme played! I was a timeline fag up until Skyward Sword...

I'll tell you what happened.

The game DID have a timeline until The Wind Waker/Oracle series/Twilight Princess.

But two things happened: The Oracle game is missing the Farore's part. Ocarina of Time went through three directions, so a lot of things didn't make sense, like sending Link back in time.

The Link coming back in time created two theories, one is the split-timeline, the other one was that Link preserved his memories of the future, so he'd stop it before Ganondorf could enter the Sacred Realm.

Well.

The Wind Waker implied it started at the "future timeline" and Twilight Princess in the "present" timeline.

Ganondorf is prosecuted and judged in Twilight. He's sent into Twilight World... but here's the catch, Twilight World was supposed to be the Dark World we see in A Link to the Past.

But Zelda has a strange kind of development, they can change stuff whenever they want...

So you see the mess? Ocarina has the split timeline plothole... they tried to fix it with a unfinished game that is The Wind Waker (it's missing dungeons/storyline).

They tried to connect Link's Awakening with the Oracle series, but again, it's missing Farore's story.

Twilight Princess changed the Dark World for Twilight World... creating another parallel universe (4 by that time...).

After that they stopped to care about timeline, they just made minor connections here and there, like Ganon's Trident in Four Sword Adventures...

The Minish Cap was supposed to tell why Link uses a hat, that was changed in Skyward Sword...

Skyward Sword actually changed the first Zelda's origin. She wasn't an accursed princess anymore, but a reincarnation of the Hylia Goddess...

They stopped to care about the timeline after Skyward Sword/DS games.

Some games connects, yes, but that's about it.

Yes. They'd leave a lot of stuff in game.

I think that the Cloud Cuckoland Stage from Tooie is actually the leftovers of DK64/BK/BT/Conker mixed in one stage...

They also left the last stage unfinished in that game.

In Pokemon X&Y there is an obscure sidequest that rewards the player with an item called Strange Souvenir. This is the only place the item shows up. The flavor text indicates that it is from another region away from where the game takes place. It has no use, cannot be transferred between games and is only worth a tiny amount of money if sold.

In Pokemon Sun & Moon it reappears as a more common item with flavor text updated to show that the region of Sun/Moon is it's place of origin, and has been given a higher selling price. Still, I always found this mysterious as it seems like a feature intended to link the 2 games that was cut.

I'm not a fucking brainlet, it's painfully obvious there are connections between the games and even times when the games make clear references to others.

But you can't tell me that thimeline they put together makes any sense. It's a ass load of what ifs all revolving around OoT (shocker). And some of the games just seem thrown in wherever the fuck they felt like there was some empty space. Like 4 swords adventure apparently being the second game in the timeline chronologically right after skyward sword.

it reeks of something they just threw together to get people to stop asking. That's all im saying. I've always liked that it was sort of just left up to interpretation of when the games took place where/why/etc.

I was obsessed with Tibia mysteries 15 years ago. My favorites were the sword of fury and the basilisk. People figured out how to make the sword disappear from its island and supposedly it would move somewhere else where it was actually obtainable but as far as I know no one ever actually managed to get it (or if they did they never shared how).

In 2006 someone named Dennis aka Toor 'hacked' CIP and got access to all of the server-side files that ran the game including quests, dialogue, etc. According to him the Sword of Fury is obtainable though very hard to get but he never explained how. Knightmare, the dev who created Rookgaard, has also confirmed that it's possible to get the sword but if I remember correctly he wouldn't comment on whether or not anyone has actually gotten it.

Back when I played using a pick on certain ground tiles in Rookgaard would open up entrances to secret chambers. Once that became common knowledge CIP removed them and people tried testing every ground tile assuming they had just moved it somewhere else.

As for the basilisk, my guess is it was part of an unfinished quest or was just never actually meant to be anything more than a flavor creature. I would love to talk to the people who made the game and learn about all the secrets, cut content, etc. Maybe one day when Tibia is gone a dev from back then will share some cool stories with us.

Or maybe that shit was always a ruse.
Putting that sword on that little island was obviously meant to inspire speculation and people bullshitting one another (and Rookgaard culture was basically nothing but people trolling one another).

I no longer trust anything any dev says ever, and retroactively this extends to any and all "leaks" and "hacks" as well. A "hacker" getting the deets on the biggest mystery in the entire game but then not telling anybody stretches my credibility.
Plus, ain't this game basically dead? Usually what happens is things like these either get their beans spilled (as a publicity stunt) or get turned into a real quest (if they were just some weird thing that players' imaginations ran away with) eventually.

He released the map files which you can probably still find online somewhere. If you've ever played 7.6 on a private server with the 'real' map that server is probably using those files. He never released the files for all the quests so maybe he made up that part or maybe he just didn't want to spoil the fun for everyone. Who knows.

Compared to 10 years ago Tibia is pretty much dead these days. But there are still some people playing and CIP still makes money selling skins and stuff. But the game has changed so much that I doubt any of the old mysteries from when I played are even relevant anymore. For example, they replaced the old tutorial island with some bullshit that takes less than an hour to get through. And remember the portal behind the door that required being level 999 to open? It was obviously put there as a joke but now some people have actually reached level 999. So they made some tiny half-assed island where you get a trophy. They clearly don't want to put much effort into things that most people won't see.

They're not the same thing.

But they were supposed to be. The Zelda development doesn't follow the GDD correctly, so they keep changing the game... again and again.

So they created this Twilight World, with the same characteristics of the Dark World from ALttP.

It shines like gold... you become something that represents your subconscious when you enter it...

They did the same with A Link Between Worlds... that probably started as a remake from ALttP and then they changed it to Lorule.

Sadly Aonuma doesn't care about Zelda story. He just make everything as he goes.

The guy who cared about that was Koizume... I guess that most of OoT consistency came from him. Sadly Miyamoto also stepped in and asked for the Child/Adult thing, that's pretty cool but created plotholes.

>Sadly Aonuma doesn't care about Zelda story. He just make everything as he goes.

idk. I suspect that this is what we're supposed to believe, but even before BOTW came out I was starting to suspect there's some sneaky Confucian tomfoolery at work in that series, which BOTW then confirmed big-style.

Meaning that, while I can't back it up without writing a giant wanky essay that nobody will read anyway, I think there's a sort of meta-narrative at work in the series which they've been slowly constructing... in reverse.
So many of the stories about how things turned out may just be lies to maintain the illusion that things are simpler than they really are (plus an advantage of building something in this way is that you can recontextualise genuine development weirdness as something intentional which you can retroactively give meaning to).

Point is... I think they really do care about the story. But they way they're implementing it requires that they make a show of acting much more casually than it seems like they should for such an important series.
Nintendo seems really aware of that fact that kids grow up with their games (and none of us used a time skip to become Old Links). The "real" story is experienced by somebody one step outside the narrative depth of the in-game protagonist, and I'm guessing that's the level at which everything is eventually meant to come together. There's some real fucking Ready Player One shit in BOTW if you really dig, but the whole thing seems to have this really intentional sense of... incompleteness. Which of course there's some bullshit dev story to handwave away, even though it's clearly an implicit design feature.

Anyway that's my "please abuse me" post for today.

Chances are it was part of Gogo's extended quest line that was cut from the game. He was supposed to mimic NPCs in world of balance, with little to no explanation, and then mimic PCs in WoR. You were supposed to find him with the character he was mimicing as the lead in the party.

As for Siegfried himself, not sure what story they originally had for him. Only fitting things I can think of:

How can we tell the difference between something which is genuinely half-finished, and something which is merely affecting a half-finished aesthetic?

I mean, sure, a lot of games get rushed out the door. But that also makes that quality a convention of the medium which somebody could affect intentionally...
Nintendo are an example of somebody with unlimited resources, and more than enough industry experience that there's no genuine reason they should EVER find themselves in a rush scenario. Konami is another.

Gamecube was losing the console war, they had no massive titles, so they had to release what they had.

There're a lot of underused assets in TWW, like Link slipping and sliding, a puzzle that had a float thing that you could spin with the Deku Leaf...

The Ghost Ship was probably a cut dungeon...

You don't get into the dungeon to get the Nayru's Pearl... but we go through a strange quest that the world can't get daylight because Ganondorf curso (which is really out of place)... so we don't get the bombs in the dungeon, but by doing a strange sidequest connected to Tetra...

Nintendo does deliver games half-finished. Mario Sunshine was unfinished too.

They cut Farore's Oracle game because it couldn't fit the password system (which means that they probably have an unreleased almost finished Zelda game...).

It's most likely that they do have an internal timeline that they use at will, and which is pretty coarse in resolution.
The official timeline just adds a bunch of detail that they never thought about before.

So, for example, MM follows OoT and SS is the first game in the timeline, but the actual events of SS contradict later games.

In fact, there's like two or three origin stories for the Master Sword because Nintendo doesn't care enough about the greater story beyond "this is roughly where shit is positioned".

And then you have the moronic timeline where Links dies, because Nintendo somehow was unable to think of a better way to fit those games in.

Personally, BotW made me think that BotW is actual events happening as you are playing them, due to its immersive sim nature and its more mundane reality, while the other games are more like retellings of history. That's why shit is off and contradictory.
Breath of the Wild is basically modern-day Zelda, where most of the magic stuff has disappeared. It's why the Zora aren't living underwater anymore, why there's no actual dungeons, why there's no diving mechanic, etc.

Basically, BotW is a documentary, while the other Zelda games are myths and legends based on events that may or may not have been as fantastical as the story claims them to be. The general goofyness of 3D Zelda games - carrying oversized items, meeting outrageously weird characters, etc. - can also be easily explained if that isn't exactly what actually happened.

>They haven't cared about the timeline since they made WW and TP, two sequels to a prequel (OoT) that were mutually incompatible as well as not fitting with the game (LttP) of which OoT was a prequel.
Why would they be incompatible? In this case the official timeline actually makes sense: OoT Link in the adult timeline travelled back to young timeline, so WW's timeline was without a Link, while TP's timeline follows from young Link and thus there's still a Link.
Might even be possible that the event that caused the world to flood in WW is actually TP.
So WW's Link might be the only Link to not be a reincarnation.

I spent so long searching for that. It wasn’t until they datamined it that I gave up hope that it was in the game.

Speaking of mysteries in OOT. During my search I found a curiosity In the Jabu Jabu section of Zora’s domain. It was near the entrance to the fairy fountain. You needed the gold gauntlets to move a Boulder which revealed a hole covered by a flat stone. I think you had to use the hammer on it or maybe a bomb could blow it up but anyway you drop in the hole and it puts you in a dark tunnel. The tunnel leads up and loops back the open water area, but is infested with invisible large skultullas. There wasn’t any piece of a heart or anything. I always wondered if there was more too it.

There's a Gold Skulltula there. It's pretty built up with all the invisible skulltulas because I think they figured it was the final one you'd find

They are pretty pleased with themselves in general, but they get hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations each event. I'm sure good chunks of that are embezzled and spent on running the event, but they do contribute something to the charities.

There's a gold skultulla but that was obviously going to be used to another thing. I have a theory that you'd access Zora's domain through the Forest. I think that was connected to that.

I believe you are not supposed to be hit up to that point. After you have cleared the first world, the spaceship shows up.
