What are some games with the same feel as Mother? Tons of games play like it (DW/DQ, etc) but I can't think of any with the similar feel

A lot of the Mario RPGs tend to give off a similar feeling of parodying the JRPG genre's tropes, but as for envoking the Americana feel I've yet to see another game do it.

I enjoy that game, but it's far more linear than Earthbound and doesn't have the same kind of funk.

Good call on Mario RPGs. How about RPGs set in roughly modern times with a slight sense of dread? The first twk generations pf Pokemon give off that same sense to me

Lisa: The Painful RPG feels like an M-rated Mother 2. I highly recommend it.

Honestly there's nothing exactly like it honestly. Though I suggest maybe looking into the Dragon Quest series, they were a major inspiration for the series.

>Hoshi wo Miru Hito
It's literally known as the worst jrpg ever made. I actually suggest researching it, it is actually amazing how fucking terrible it is.

Though just to give some points though.
>the first town in the game is invisible on the overworld, this is never explained in game
>some of the first enemies are so strong they take zero (0) damage from you
>you can NOT run from battles
>the first weapon you are given makes you WEAKER, and you can unequip it unless you buy another weapon
>every time you die your experience resets, meaning you are back to level 1 again
And this is just the beginning.

i liked chulip on the ps2 (not retro i know) for similar reasons. little kings story is similar and by the same director, and also a much more playable game. both have weird sentimental settings with odd characters and good dialogue. would recommend.

>>4966720
that game is a spiritual sequel to games that are retro, the boku no natsuyasumi series. those games are legitimately great, japan only though.

Tried playing Earthbound recently and didn't enjoy it very much. RPG elements are tedious to me now and the world it was set in seemed like something I would have enjoyed a lot as a kid, but as an adult it didn't really do anything for me. Too bad I guess.

>> No.4967513

>>4967507
I'll add a bit: the main thing that it felt like to me was going back and watching some old Nickelodeon cartoons that I liked 20 years ago or something. There's a definite charm to it and it has some things that adults can get a chuckle out of, but ultimately if you aren't a kid you're going to get bored after a while because its so shallow.
