So... just found an N64 at a garage sale for $10, tested it there and it turned on, however now that im at home trying to play all i get is a black screen and a "crackling" noise that last like 1 second when i turn the console on, but no picture or audio at all, tried cleaning the board and the cart connector, everything is clean and nice now.

So far ive tried my other working set of cables, my other working expansion pack, the games work fine on my other N64 so its a problem with the actual console.

Do you guys think it could be a dead cap? ive never seen a dead N64.

Sounds like it just needs a deep cleaning. If you can open up the N64 and strip it down the cartage slot pulls off the board. Just be aware you will most likely need a powered screw driver to get the screws back into the giant heat sink

done that already, also did a solder pass on the Ac plug, video cable port and cart connector port.Still no luck, this is the first time ive seen a dead N64, and this one is in muh better condition than other ive rescued from flea market vendors.

Sounds like a bad capacitor somewhere, probably in the power circuits.

thats what im thinking, i just replaced the 10uf and 33uf ones and still black screen everytime, tomorrow ill get some 220uf and 68uf replacements and post restults after i replace those.

My Dualshock loses the triangle button when I activate the analog sticks. Pro tips on where to start checking? Might it be a console issue and not a controller issue?

Have you tried hot glueing the memory bank back on the cervical board?

Do you guys think one of those cheap oscilloscopes will be usefull for fixing consoles? i have a few Nes and Snes with different issues like audio cracling or video didstortion and i would like to try and fix them for fun.

the same i think about those cheap EPROM programmers, that its not gonna work cause its garbage.

So why not instead of being a condescendent cunt, reply with a yes or no if you are familiar with this topic, theres a reason im asking, im not.

if it has a hold function to capture a signal and scroll though it then maybe.

did you take apart the power supply? that sounds like a power supply problem.

controller. dualshocks misbehave in some strange ways like that.

nope those work fine

welp, just finished replacing all caps on this N64 and still isnt working.

Cleaned the board with Iso alcohol and a tooth brush, cleaned the cart connector from top and bottom, did a fresh solder pass on the power pin connector, video cable connector and cart connector, cleaned the expansion pack connector, but still black screen everytime.

Same set of AC adapter, video cable and expansion pack work fine on my other blue N64.

Should i put this on sale on Ebay as LOOK RARE BROKEN N64 ??

Dude just make a new board and chip, way easier

Don't forget to time travel

Don't talk yourself out of a sale, just say untested, for spares/repairs, sold as-is, no returns. Add some filler like you picked it up at a garage sale but it didn't come with cables/controller and you're gold.

Clearly not in your case

>>4863304
Double clearly now. If you can't figure out how to use a cheap programmer you're not getting anywhere with a scope. Even babys first pre-assembled kit.
