If Midway is fucking dead, and Taito's Space Invaders, along with Bandai-Namco's Galaxians were unwilling participants in it, who the fuck owns Gorf today?

Fuck yes.

As for me, most likely Pleiades, though.
Moon Quasar and Space Bugger are fun too.

Space Invaders for the GBC (it has a black cartridge).
I was literally just playing it just now. (Got to the last level of Earth before the boss on Normal. Got wiped. Got further on Easy mode before though)
It's very good. You shoot enemies in waves. Each planet has a special alien type with a unique quirk.
Occasionally you face a boss, which is a giant alien ship that gets progressively more powerful each time you face it, or meteor showers.
You get three different types of ships. One starts you off with three shields and has a longer invulnerablility time when you collect an extra shield over your max three, but its slower and weapons dont last very long. Another starts with just one shield, and has a short invuln window but is faster and has longer lasting weapon powerups. The last type of ship is in the middle of the two.
You can also do a trick where you sacrifice a shield to wipe aliens that are about to fly into you. You can also dash by double tapping left or right.
It's probably one of the best Gameboy games.

Honestly, straight up Galaga. Having a Galaga cabinet is on my bucket list

Battlantis. It's space invaders (plus a few twists) with an ancient Greece/Rome theme. Surprisingly addictive.
BTW, the name of this genre is "fixed shooter".

1) Tempest
2) Tempest 3000
3) IS internal section (does this one count?)

I don't know if I've ever actually played Galaxian. What is different between Galaga and Galaxian?

I'd rather have the cocktail table, but otherwise yeah, bucket-list worthy.

Way more movement from enemies.
Enemies who capture your ship (and the chance to get it back and become a double-shooter).
Bonus point levels.

Sorry, that's what galaga has over galaxian. Galaxian is very static except for the occasional dive bomber.

I've got some plans to build a cocktail cabinet this summer. I am disabled and can't move very well so I will have to be a bit careful with my design.

Right now I think I'm going to find a piece of furniture that is already put together that I can cut a hole in the top of, and then decase an old CRT monitor or mount it in there. Then put a piece of smoked glass over that.

Don't know how I'd install the controls. I could do the old "school desk" style cocktail controls that stick out towards the player, I could just drill holes in the top, or I could build a control box to attach. I think I am leaning toward the school desk design.

Because as a young male you are not allowed to like cute things in this society. Kinda of like how you have to pretend you don’t still like Pokémon until you’re 30.

Space Invaders has had decent quality control, a lot of games in the franchise are good. Original is still well worth playing too.

>>4722653
If Tempest counts then it and Robotron are my answers. Even better than Galaga, which is 10/10 itself. Centipede and Millipede are great too. Also Satan's Hollow is one to check out.

I guess I just think cocktail tables are romantic. They put me in a different mind of old arcade games. I don't think of them as being in arcades so much (even though they were in plenty of them) but instead think of the odd ones you'd find in the lobby of a restaurant, or a hotel. Maybe in the recreation room of a public pool facility. And maybe you'd have a young woman along with you, and you'd sit down and play a game or two together.

Robotron is pure bliss.
