Because you have 8 directions to fire your whip and you can also jerk the vampire killer like a limp dick making it an invisible barrier that not even death's scythes can touch you

Bloodlines comes out

Castlevania Dracula X comes out

CV4 is weird and loosey-goosey in its design, on top of being easy. It impresses people audiovisually but it really feels like an outlier otherwise

Did you play 1 and 3?
By comparision it's pretty easy, on it's own isn't terribly hard either.

>> No.4575803

>>4575623
Yes i played both of them, 3 is that good i even spent like 200 hours playing it and i still can go on. But i can't see how 3 is even considered to be hard, im using sypha and i'm destroying everything with ease. Meanwhile Slogra in IV is just fucking retarded.

>> No.4575839

IV being easy is just an illusion given by the first 2 or 3 stages in the game.

IV should have been called Super Castlevania or demons castle dracula, as it is devoid of canonical connections to the events of Simon's Quest. Its Castlevania 1 on a 16-bit console.

>> No.4576260

>>4576104
As >>4576112 mentioned, the title is different in Japan. It was pretty commonplace in the 80s and 90s to take non-numbered titles and number them on release order despite their chronological order. Still, I'd take numbered entries in series any day over The Fast and the Furious or Xbox numbering schemes because god forbid you market something as a sequel/prequel or whatever.

That's exactly why it's so good, it's the simple no bullshit Castlevania 1 formula except polished and expanded into a longer more, challenging game. It has great feeling controls that don't compromise the classic gameplay, good subweapon balance, good level design with good encounter design and some creative set pieces, amazing atmosphere, god-tier OST. What more do you want?

>> No.4579020

>>4574862
Because SCIV was made to be more accessible to reach larger audience, and Rondo/X are a course correction after hardcore Castlevania fans said that IV was too different/casual compared to other Castlevanias. So they are more difficult, remove diagonal whipping, you have less jump control, etc.

I think Rondo was easier than IV, and was made be more accessible to non-CV fans.
Castlevania 1 isn't really more difficult than IV overall.
Dracula's Curse is more difficult (if you play Trevor only), and Haunted Castle is the actual most difficult Castlevania game.

Yes, Castlevania Chronicles is a PS1 port of the X68000 game. The port has two versions of the game, the original and an easier "Arrange Version".

>> No.4582752

>>4576345
No, it's a legitimately great game. Under the radar to be sure, but it's a blast. The gameplay is tight, the aesthetics pop well, and it's genuinely challenging. Also, the stage five boss has a great gimmick and Dracula's attacks are some of the best in the series.
