Has anyone tried playing PS1 Games on an SD TV using the PSP's video out? How is the experience? Does it look good?

>> No.4492873

The PSP supports output of 240p so it actually looks like its supposed to.

>SD TV

Is that possible? I have a CRT with component, but the PSP wouldn't work on it.

>> No.4493880

My PSP does not have TV-out, so no. If it did, I would certainly play it more often.

MyLifeInGaming has a video on that. I think it's the last part of the Playstation one.

The 2000 model was composite only iirc
Later models were component. The first model had no TV out.

>> No.4494065

>>4493880

If your tv has component, psp has a component cord for not a lot of money.

my life in gaming did a break down of how the PSP looks on SD TV's in their playstation 1 video I believe. Check it out. I think it fares pretty well. PSP definitely looks like shit on an hdtv though.

>>4494046
The 2000 is compatible with component, but I didn't get a signal when I used it on my CRT. Worked fine on an HDTV.

How does games emulated on PSP look like on CRT?
And how good chink cables for this job?

Anyone have any experience modding a bigger battery into their psp? My OEM battery doesn't hold a charge anymore and chinese ones are all shit. I've thought about just upgrading to a vita but I'd like to keep this thing working if I can

Here you go OP.

We had this thread recently, there are also results and pictures of how it works and looks.
Good luck and have fun!

I don't have it on me to check, but I seem to remember my PSP 2000 insisting on progressive scan via component. Could have been the issue there.

i set up a psp go to use with my crt, made a thread about it some weeks ago. Works well, with the psp go specifically you can connect a dualshock 3 and use that instead. Its a good option if you can get the psp and av cables for cheap.

Should I go for component cable or composite cable?
Also how's the emulation when connected to the TV? does it scale up? or remain at original size?

>> No.4499486

>>4494065
It doesn't work on the original model PSP, which is probably the one he has.

>> No.4499490

>>4499481
you should go for component cables if you can. and the psp 3000/go output ps1 classics at 240p so its perfect for playing on a crt.

>> No.4499492

>>4499490
>you should go for component cables if you can
Any specific reason?
>psp 3000/go output ps1 classics at 240p
I've seen this >>4497279 video, but I was wondering about emulation.

>> No.4499495

>>4499492
because component looks better than composite. if your tv has component inputs go for it, i imagine the cables are probably around the same price point anyway. As for emulation, well the ps1 emulator in the psp has always been regarded as good.

I meant regarding GBA/NES/MAME.
See in this video https://youtu.be/PY_nH7IGTZ4?t=1616
It fails to output video when running GBA emulator, and it doesn't give any idea how it would look like on CRT.

>> No.4500773

>>4492846
It looks really great.
The controls are really cramped, unless you play using a PSP Go synced with a DualShock 3.
My go to way of playing PSone Classics on my CRT and for playing PSP games on the big screen are via the PSP Go plugged in via component and outputting interlaced mode for PSone Classics and progressive scan for everything else, while synced with the DualShock 3.

>>4493871
The PSP 2000 only supported 480p for PSP games, but it can play 240p/480i for the menu, music player, videos, PSone Classics, and some homebrew.
The PSP 3000 and Go supported 480i and 480p for everything, with PSone Classics being in 240p for 240p games.

The PSP is my favorite portable console for various reasons.

Iirc, you can output a 1000 to a pc using a usb cable, it was clunky at the time, dropping/black screening frames etc but it may have stabilised over the years with improvments to the pc software. I don't know for sure, its been a hell of a long time since I was in the psp modding scene.

How good is the emulation of PS1 games on PSP? With how old the PSP is im a bit concerned about how accurate the emulator is. And are all PS1 games the same? In terms of official PS1 Classics and regular PS1 ISOs played on a CFW PSP

>> No.4503346

>>4503341
It's more like native support than emulation. The PSP was designed to run PS1 games.

>> No.4503349

>>4503346
Thats good news. So if i drop any PS1 ISO chances are the game will work fine?

Don't listen to these shitty memers. The compatibility is nowhere near 100%. This is after manually selecting Pops versions using Popsloader. Is Pops good in the sense that it's servicable? Yes. Is it native? I'd be shocked if this is the definition of native.
