Bowser is more useless honestly. Bowser's better early game because of his god tier physical defense but by the mid and late game Bowser does way less damage than Mario and Geno since all of his weapons suck, and his boost in defense isn't nearly as noticeable when everyone has 150+ HP and decent armor.

Mallow is the best for clearing weak enemy swarms since thunderbolt costs only 2 FP and very few things are resistant to lightning. For bosses though yeah the tried and true Mario-Geno-Peach is by far the best party.
