Harle's japanese name Tsukuyomi was so much more badass than the name the localization team ended up choosing. It also ruined her moon motif.

I liked the game but i always felt likeni broke the game during one part where you cross a fire cavern. I know you were supposed to get something to cross it and notn get hurt. Id always just go right through and the other side of the game seemed unfinoshed when i did that. I googled it and apparamtly you can do either but i literally tried everythimg and got stuck literally every playthrough at the same point at least 4 times. I want to run through the game again. Hopefully itll turn up on steam one day. I loathe emulating playstatiom games.

Yeah, it's a bad game that people only bought because it was a sequel to Chrono Trigger. Nobody really liked it even back then, they just tried to find whatever enjoyment they could out of a long disappointment. Pretty sure most people didn't even finish it, I know I didn't.

Could you help explain the ending? How did the worlds mend together? What does that mean for the drastically contrasted lives that many of the people lived? How come it says that you won't remember anything, then as soon as Surge is back in the world he asks Leena a few things about what happened as if he remembered? Why does it show Kid in our world, and then randomly show her in a wedding dress at the beach afterwards?

>> No.4314036

maybe he means its not the same magus because schala destroyed his memories to keep him from wasting his life searching for her, so essentially he is magus physically but not the one we knew from CT, who was obsessed with finding his sister.

Schala in destroying his memories effectively killed the CT magus, really.

They really just need to release all of the classics on modern systems and actually put in effort to make them not look like garbage when upscaled

FF8 looks great on steam with enough mods so it can be done, and that was a generally bad port, too.

At the very least you can't deny that the music was phenomenal and that the graphics pushed the PS1 to it's limits. Still can't salvage it from ruining Chrono Trigger. Baby daughter clone.

>Baby daughter clone.
Threadly reminder that this was the result of a translation impasse. In Chrono Trigger, the Lavos "Spawns" were called "bunshin", ie Lavos' "other selves", or more technically clone-spawns. In Cross, Schala's ability to create her own "bunshin" is clearly a reference to Lavos' powers and how she's now fused with it (unlike in Radical Dreamers, where Kid was Schala herself).

This term is nearly impossible to translate without expanding it into technical/wordy nonsense, and thus "clone-daughter" came to be.

>>4313345
You're absolutely correct, "Harle" is a copout and conveys nothing about her original name. At least stuff "Mojo" (and "Mojoy") were creative within the name character limits. Harle is akin to naming Nikki "Singer" or Fargo "Pirate", it's just lazy.

That being said, what do you think could have been done to improve on it? My idea would be to keep the moon deity reference, but not Tsukuyomi itself as it's too long and too foreign to non-weebs (and back then only the hardcore weebs would have known who Tsukuyomi was, anyway). The thing is that the most known moon deity references sound fairly mundane (Selene or Phoebe), so I'd look into other mythologies for a male moon god instead, since Tsukuyomi is, after all, male. The contrast was probably on purpose given her true identity as the moon dragon.

It all sounds stupid now, since "Harle" is so ingrained into Cross players, but I do think it would have been nice to have her have a more imposing, mythological name like she was meant to.

Also fuck "Masa" and "Mune", "Mastermune" was a nice attempt to work with Woosley's retarded name changes, but it has none of the meaning or gravitas "Grand Dream" does.

>generated excellent reviews
>implying vidya journalism is trustworthy

Even before Gamergate, vidya journalism was mostly "corrupt" marketing. Magazines sold ads to publishers, and there were a lot of Chrono Cross ads. Publishers who spent a lot of money on ads expected favorable reviews as part of the marketing package they bought, to sell what the businessmen view as just a toy for children so who even cares if their reviews are lying/unethical? We the consumers care, of course, but we don't sign their paychecks or hold stock shares.

Have never played Trigger yet. But based on my knowledge of RPG's in general. This is a great game with a few moderate flaws.

>Relaxing start which slowly gets you ready for the game's mechanics.

>Are given multiple choices which alter the story more than any Telltale game, encourages replays

>Incredible music, leaves you with wonder, relaxation, and adventure.

>Story was engaging and still leaves plotholes left up for you to interpret

>Multiple endings, new game plus gives you a fast forward button, seriously a FF button in a JRPG

Flaws include

>Elements system kinda being a clusterfuck, getting good elements had crypt quests and you kinda just gave the best shit to Serge anyway

>Story gets incredibly plot dump heavy in 3 places, drags on for awhile and it is pure lazyness

>With this game having FUCKING 45 CHARACTERS most have very little character development, they also try to hammer in a bond with Kid (whom I hate) hard into the game. Glad you can never have her in your party if you just say the right things

>Serge is broken since he is an unchangeable party member, don't think this game was meant to be hard anyway but still.

>Ending fucking sucked

Conclusion: Buy this game, even if you haven't played Trigger, you won't be that confused because it's only really connected in the 3 main plot dump parts. Everything else is brand new. Got this game brand new for $10 physically. So being unable to play it is no excuse. Make your own stories with your massive roster of characters if you have to.

it had some texture issues too, but yeah the music is what most people know is fucked up, though its probably the easiest fix of all, ironically, you can honestly use an overwhelming amount of mods for that game, like well over 20, its quite ridiculous. Only a few of them are for things like model upgrades too, most of it is just for making the game look good while upscaled and not having textures explode all over the place, some also make the pre-renders less pixelated

Once you play Chrono Trigger, you'll come to realize that all villains, a couple major characters and a couple locations are thinly veiled reskins of Chrono Trigger villains, characters and locations, meant to link both games together in an uncertain way which only really clicks after reading the plot dumps.

Worlds didn't mend together. Defeating Lavos caused all events of Chrono Cross to be reverted. Worlds were not split in the first place. So people from these worlds are victims of time travel (just like people from post-apocaliptic future in Chrono Trigger). It's unclear what happens with them. That problem is addressed by Lucca. She was scared that people from removed timelines are going to take revenge on her. But there is no canon explanation.

Kid and Schala become one person, because reason why Kid was born never occurred. The result is Schala with Kid's memory. (Remember that time travelers keep their memory about removed timelines. Serge is not one of them, but Schala is.) She is looking for Serge by moving between worlds. Wedding photo means that she found him.
