How do I get decent at fighting games /vr/? I have no problem doing the special move inputs but I don't know how to do combos for shit

Dose your game of choice have a training mode?

Practice. Both in training mode so you learn how to into combo (or 2p mode with nobody holding the other controller, if there's no training mode) and against a real flesh-and-blood player who's about your level.

Look up some BnBs for your preferred character
Drill them into your head until they become second nature
Go on Fightcade; watch all of that shit go right out the window the first time you play a live opponent
Eventually stop spazzing out and actually start using those combos
Don't forget throws when close
Seriously I used to get thrown all the fucking time because I'd forget that shit; don't be me
>Garou Specific
Parrying is easy as shit, but you still have to be able to read/bait your opponent to use it fully

Really though you shouldn't expect to become some kind of 99-hit juggling god overnight. Just learn what specials can be chained off what normals. Self control means more than anything else really; I have a habit of wanting to jump-in for everything and I get punished for it. When I play real people I have to force myself to walk/dash in and stop hopping around like an idiot

I'm pretty new too.
Been playing Third Strike as Makoto. Should I be ashamed of losing badly?

Don't bother. Get good enough to where you can play with some people you like. Have fun. Games are meant to be fun. The people who've turned this shit into a "competitive" esport have done nothing but fuck over the entire genre

This, get some friends together to play a game that none of you are good at yet and you'll have a blast. Getting good at killing the computer is fucking boring.

>getting rekt against AI on maximum difficulty
>go to fightcade
>get rekt
>no friends willing to play it

Eventually you have to get good in order to have fun. Losing all the time sucks at some point

>> No.4068808

Fight a lot of people to actually get a feel of what a real combat is like. Then work on controlling your space and the mind games. By the time you actually "get it", most of your inputs will come out naturally.

tl;dr fight, fight and fight

Combos and special moves don't matter at all. If your fundamentals are bad, you're not gonna be able to land them anyway.

I agree with specials but combos is a must

It's a question of getting good to what end. Yeah it feels nice to win but after awhile when all you play is faceless strangers that's boring too. An opponent you can't say may as well be the computer for as personal as it gets.

It was one thing when it was the arcade and you played people face to face but through an anonymous online server? That's lame. What do I care if can and can't beat some asshole in California.
