I have a DKC2 cartridge with a few problems;
>label sticker is faded
Looks like I can buy a replacement sticker from retrogamecases, or is there a better alternative?
>save file occasionally deletes itself
I assume this is battery related? Perhaps a simple battery swap will fix this?
>cartridge is yellowing
Is it easy to just by a replacement surrogate cartridge case? Where from? I hear retrobrite makes the plastic brittle or something

Typically when the battery is dying it usually doesn't stop all of a sudden. Sometimes they will still kindof work but not consistently. Sometimes when you boot it up only one save is gone. Replacing the battery should fix this. Also keep in mind that I have had carts that would wipe saves if they don't boot properly so make sure everything is very clean and will load before you try booting it.

>>3929967
okay, the cartridge is actually second hand, so I'm hoping there is no irreparable problem with it. Maybe it needs a clean

That's really up to you. Each vendor has their own way of printing labels. Be sure you find out what resolution they print at or find out before hand.

>save file occasionally deletes itself
>I assume this is battery related? Perhaps a simple battery swap will fix this?

It might be the battery or the S-ram finally dying. A battery is the right place to start. I know though that DKC2 is VERY finicky when it gets dirty and some times can trigger a copy protection screen that wipes the saved games.

Again it's up to you what you want to do. Retrobrite might take a few treatments but if you're getting a new label, it might just be better to get a new case as well and save the labor.

I have a Mega Drive that I'm looking to breath some new life into, if I install a region switch, will that allow it to play games at 60hz, or simply change the region it registers as?
Essentially, will it be able to turn it into a Genesis, or some weird hybrid Mega Drive that plays Genesis slowly?

>> No.3930820 [DELETED]

I know it's not retro but still
Can I replace me PSP Street case with 3000 model case? That fucking flat buttons are fucking shit. I want to buy RED or White case from ali.

"Region" on MD/Genesis is achieved by a combination of language and frequency settings.

You need to modify both parameters to achieve 100% game compatibility.

Has anyone tried out this circuit to get YPbPr from an RGB console? Trying to get my Dreamcast to look good on a consumer grade CRT.
If it works well I'm gonna do a second one for my n64.

This is the most simple region mod you can do with one single switch thank to the fact that the console always defaults to English and 60Hz when no connection is made.
Paired with an RGB LED it's pretty awesome.

That's not it, the early Model 1's don't have TMSS, which was an effort to lock out unlicensed games.
You will still need to switch the language, but there is a method to get all 3 valid regions on one 3-way switch.

>S-ram
OP here, I am unfamiliar with this S-RAM issue. Are you saying if/when s-ram dies then the cartridge is irreparable?

>> No.3932192

>>3931757
It's the chip that holds the actual save data. It wouldn't be irreparable if it died. You'd have to salvage an S-ram chip off another game with the same value.

according to https://snescentral.com/pcbboards.php?chip=SHVC-1J1M-20

It uses a LH5116D-10p. Finding one (or an equivalent) might be hard in this day and age though, at least a new one would be hard.

But like I said. it's most likely the battery. If you have a multi meter you can test the battery and see how many volts it's putting out. Anything below 2.4~ ish volts and its getting into danger territory

The buttons on my old NES controllers have started to stop responding. Is it a problem with the rubber thing that comes in contact with the curcuitboard or is it a problem with the contacts themselves?

You didn't happen to short the pads between JP1 and JP2 or JP3 and JP4 together did you?
Get out a multimeter and check the fuses and see if the voltage regulators put out what they're supposed to.

It's probably power brick since it does not power other compatible devices in my home anymore. Just ordered new. I did not seen any fuses on my MD. Gonna check those two voltage regulators but for the love of god I can't find my multimeter anywhere.
Anyway shits gonna wait for one or two weeks. I've got a lot of my own work and I need new soldering wick anyway.

For some reason, no. All there seems to be on the market for any console in terms of replacement cartridges seems to be cheap crap that's obviously fake.

I've often wondered why this is. If you're going to pay all that money for the tooling, why not just make a 1:1 copy

I've had games do this too, all SNES ones, Earthbound deletes my shit if it doesn't boot correctly, as in it boots to a glitched screen. A good cleaning will fix this, though. For DKC it's not that big a problem, for RPGs it is, so whenever I play an RPG I don't take the cart out til I beat it.
