Normies who know nothing about retro gaming in the modern age.

It's the same people that kept the plug and play business alive for 2 decades. Just now Nintendo is finally getting in on it because they can get the hardware so cheap that it's worth their time.

Don't be part of the problem

It's crazy when you can go to Chinatown and buy some shitty bootleg plug and play clone with fake PS1 controllers and it ends up being a rom drop of one of the 110in1 famicom carts from Russia with all the games the MiniNES has and MORE.

But that's the beauty with casuals and video games, you can make millions off of them due to their lack of knowledge

>> No.3602253

>Whose
*Who's

Nintendo may as well make the money than someone else making clones. Who cares? Not including the mario 2/ lost levels is a bizarre choice. It wouldn't have cost them anything.
If they made a gameboy colour clone I would buy one so I hope this does well.

Honestly, it could be either one.

Nintendo seems to want to bring DQ over by how much they market the fuck out of it whenever they publish one because Square won't.

Meanwhile Square refuses to bring anything over unless someone else localizes it for them.

Controversial statement, but I think WE'RE the problem.

More people that those few of us you argue endlessly over how expensive a game none of us gave a shit about when it first came out played these old games. If the ratio of retro gamers vs regular people who played NES is, like, 1/100, then 99 people are more interested in playing 30 games they remember playing when they were kids for the price of a modern video game than bothering why SMB 3 "deserves" to be $20 or that they won't be experiencing the "100% authentic retro experience".

Someone seems to say it every thread, but THE NES CLASSIC ISN'T FOR RETRO GAMERS; STOP ACTING LIKE IT IS.

Not having Contra is pretty much unforgivable. Just waiting to see if it's hackable, otherwise I'll pick one up at a big sale or something just for decoration

Oh and maybe the controllers could be useful for emulation if they're good quality.

That looks like a nice selection. I used to bring these plug-and-play things on vacation for playing at the hotel, and Gradius alone would probably keep me busy.

I would swap out Pac-Man and Galaga, given that the Namco plug-and-plays already have solid emulations of the arcade versions.

>Dragon Warrior
WTF? Draggon Warrior 2 or 3 would be understandable. Even Final Fantasy 2 or 3 would be appealing.

Castlevania 3 with the VRC6 sound would be interesting.

No Double Dragon 3 either.

And only one Megaman, but 6 mario games. For this reason, including the lost levels wouldn't necessarily have been good. It's still pretty bad, 6 of 30 games are Mario games!

This, pretty much. Modern Nintendo is all about trying to appeal to the average person, not the hardcore crowd. They could sell this thing with just the 3 Mario games and Zelda and it would still sell millions. I saw tons of my friends on normiebook sharing the announcement article for the NES classic saying "definitely going to have to get one of these" even though they have no interest in retro games otherwise. They would pretty much never consider buying an actual NES since all they want to play is Mario or Zelda or maybe a couple other games. They aren't trying to play obscure stuff like kickmaster or super spy hunter, we're the only ones interested in playing old games we didn't grow up with because we actually like the way old games play. We aren't a demographic worth targeting when Nintendo could just bank on nostalgia for their old million sellers and make exponentially more money.

In my view the NES classic is going to actually be better for people who do want to collect original hardware because we won't have nearly as many people buying retrons or actual NES consoles and the same handful of must have games (Mario, Zelda, contra) and then putting them in their closet after playing them for a weekend. People will just buy this thing and let it collect dust instead of doing the same with original hardware. although Nintendo is definitely missing out on some cash by not putting some sort of proprietary card slot on the NES classic and then selling more game bundles down the road.

All of those can be excused even though the no way to add more games clause is bullshit as well. But 75 CM of cable is ridiculous. You'd have to sit on someones lap to play a 2 player game. What the fuck man. Would it hurt THAT much to add a 2 meter cable!?

Was getting exited for this to play casually with a friend and some beers, but now it's DROPPED.

Maybe it's like the Genesis? The 3-button controller only had a 3 foot cord, but it also had a power cord which was super long to make up for it.

It's still pretty tiny though, the distance from my table to my couch is 60CM already. I'd have to be hunched over to play, and hunched over in an awkward position to play with a friend.
