Cause its shit design. Handhelds dont need to be in two fucking parts. Ds and 3ds get a pass cause they fold, but they still are not as ergonomic as any gameboy or psp or vita. Someone needs to make a case you slide your phone into, buttons on each side and a hole for the screen

they don't need to be in one piece either. The design in OP's pic allows to use a living room controller and maximizes the available screensize, regardless of the size of your phone/phablet. Both things a slide-in can't offer

When it comes to bluetooth controllers there are basically three divergent schools of thought

>I want the controller to have ideal ergonomics
Use a PS3 controller or a bluetooth repro/modded version of your fave controller plus a clamp

>I want to have the ideal screen layout
Use a decent clamp on controller like pic related which is pretty popular

>I want something that fits in my pocket
Use the best bluetooth controller that's small enough for your pocket

OP looks like it falls somewhere between category 1 and category 2, maybe in a nice place depending on the thickness of the controller and how slim is the clip.

Personally, I carry an additional device, an Xperia Play because the whole thing is smaller than most bluetooth controllers. People who want big power also will often have a dedicated device like an Nvidia Shield. It's nice not to worry about your phone's battery.

I predict there's going to be demand for a good clamp-on bluetooth controller with very good Windows gamepad compatibility, considering how common Windows tablets are becoming.

Weren't smartphones low powered shit a decade ago?

Like, I think mine is neat now, being able to check 4chan or YouTube on the toilet or when out and about is a feature I value, but phones in 2006 didn't exactly have a lot of memory or processing power, at least from what I remember (shit, my previous phone had serious slowdown and memory issues when trying to run Doom on a Boom port), and they didn't have a lot hardware or software support compared to today.

I'm not saying it couldn't have been done, putting an emulator on one and attaching a controller to make sort of a faux hand-held system, but I'm not sure it would be as easy or smooth.

>>3421939
>Handhelds dont need to be in two fucking parts. Ds and 3ds get a pass cause they fold
Basically this, the method where you basically join a phone and a standard gamepad with a clamp is bulky and awkward, it doesn't fit in your pockets unless you're Paul Bunyan.

>Someone needs to make a case you slide your phone into, buttons on each side and a hole for the screen
There's a couple of designs like that already, one has a rubber gasket which you jam the phone into, and supposedly it's supposed to sit snug. Others come with a set of spacers and fitting pieces to fit a number of models through combination.

The analog sticks are very tiny so not very intuitive to control, if you care about those. The d-pad is alright, probably on the higher end as far as modern controllers go, but still not as good as a real SNES/SFC controller (and nothing else ever will be). I'm extremely picky about d-pads, they're a very subtle thing to get exactly right. This one is usable though. ABXY/Start/Select buttons are all fine. The L/R shoulder pairs are split horizontally so you may or may not find it a tiny bit difficult to hit the right one depending on your hand size, I went back and forth trying to decide whether I liked the outer pair more or the inner.

The only other annoying thing with this controller is the LEDs on the bottom are constantly flashing on and off when being used in PC mode, for some reason.. They can't be turned off, unless there's a firmware patch for that now. Overall I figured the $40 I spent on it would be a gamble, but I ended up liking it, and I'm happy with what I got for the money, I guess.

My phone has a full physical QWERTY keyboard that slides out from under it. I've posted about it before. It's also considerably heavier than other phones I've owned and held, which I like.
I run emulators and map the controls to the physical keys.

Works a dream. Makes me wonder why none of you guys do that. I can play games on the go discreetly rather than have to look like a spaghetti-mode spastic, pulling out a phone and controller and that snappy-on-y thing.
