There are quite a few titles from the third generation home consoles that have aged well, but it does not seem like anything from second generation home consoles are worth revisiting or have stood the test of time?

Pic sorta related, second generation home consoles were dominated by poor arcade ports.

>> No.3417345

Id argue that games like Warlords and Battlezone hold up.

>> No.3417368

Second Gen is an adquired taste, play stuff and wait to get used to it. If time keep passing and you don't seem to enjoy anything, just stop wasting your time. You don't have to like it because hipster points.

Midnight Magic for the Atari 2600.

Which versions, though? The 2600 ones? The Arcade versions? Or the ones released for the Atari 5200?

ColecoVision is superior. Maybe the 5200 but idk much about it

Trust me, ColecoVision has better graphics.

I thought neither of those were released for the 5200. Wasn't Battlezone planned but cancelled?

I'm pretty sure you can get
both updated and classic versions of this for your smartfone.

Here's a few 2600 games that I would say hold up even today.

Demon Attack
River Raid 1+2
Solaris
Turmoil
Stargate: Defender II
Chopper Command
Seaquest
Joust
Dolphin
Pitfall 1+2
HERO
Montezuma's Revenge
Berzerk
Wizard of Wor(2 players supported)
Jr. Pac-Man
Breakout/Super Breakout(includes original Breakout)
Video Olympics/Pong Sports(needs 2 players)
Warlords(needs 2-4 players)

Honestly a lot of the arcade ports are mostly decent the only notable shit port is Pac-Man.

Today every PC can use MAME. There is no reason to play an arcade port like Joust on the 2600 if you can just run the superior arcade version in MAME.

Joust for the 2600 plays slightly differently from the arcade original.

Jr. Pac-Man scrolls vertically rather than horizontally and I'm not sure but the maze might be a little different.

Defender II and Wizard of Wor can be skipped if you just want to play the arcade original.

<- this for Atari 2600.

Also Attack of the Timelord for Magnavox Odyssey 2.

>> No.3420197

Geez, I remember playing smurfs for the 2600 and thinking it looked indistinguishable from the cartoon when I was a kid. Now, it looks like butt. When people ask if anyone legitimately thought atari had good graphics at the time, I reply with a resounding YES!

>> No.3420275

at first glance i thought the OP's pic was Joust and i got genuinely excited

SMB is cool too though
