What are your favorite Dragon Ball games?

Bonus points if it includes future Trunks

There was this odd Game Boy RPG-ish game I used to play all the time, just because it was Dragon Ball. I remember actually beating it once, and it covered the couple first Adult Goku story arcs (maybe up to Vegeta maybe)

A friend got the french-translated fighting game for the Mega Drive too; pretty neat one as well

I still have a physical copy of that exact game with the converter since cartridges on the US SNES were different. I had a lot of fun but Trunks is cheese on the water map or in the sky on any map since you can't crouch down to block.

Hyper Dimension is the only SNES DBZ fighter worth playing

I like Super Butoden 2 better, but HD is fine too.
Different play styles.

Hyper Dimension is the only really good SNES one, although the flying battles are awful. Butouden 2 is decent, but slow and clunky as fuck.

The SNES RPG (Super Saya Densetsu) is crap, but very charming.

>although the flying battles are awful.

you take that back. you could repeatedly use some air-only attacks, which was awesome. It made Kid Buu extremely powerful because he could now use his 3-shot move repeatedly, and if he launched his super ball from below you, it hit THREE times - once for each level.

>but slow and clunky as fuck.

it has a turbo mode, and it doesn't really feels clunky to me. Maybe it's because I'm very used to play it.

Hyper Dimension is good, but it feels like a typical fighting game, Butouden titles have their own special gameplay system.

Best thing about hyper dimension, if that was the one I remember correctly is that Roshi was a playable character and he could use his buff old man Kame hame ha move.

You are not remembering correctly. I think you are thinking of either Ultimate Battle 22, or Shin Butouden.

It's not exactly retro, but the Legacy of Goku games for the GBA were fucking awesome, imo. It was an RPG style trilogy that went from the beginning of the Frieza saga to the Cell saga, and to the end of the Buu saga.

By the third one you can equip items and it had a currency + store system to buy equippable items or food + drink to heal health or fill ki energy.

I liked playing them, they were a fun timesink

Is it Legacy of Goku? I tried it, but there were so many problems with the game that I just couldn't play it.

Legacy of Goku 3 > Legacy of Goku 2 >>>>> Legacy of Goku 1

If it matters any to you, the 3rd one introduces a blocking feature too so you can block ranged and melee attacks

Nah, I meant the original Game Boy, and turn-based RPG-ishness. The wiki tells me it's called Goku Hishōden and apparently there's a sequel that covers the Namek arc as well

I just saw in Wikipedia, all the episodes 16 bits (Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis) are only release to Japan, France and Spain sometimes.
That is true ?

Yes, all 3 Super Butouden games on SNES and Bu Yu Retsuden on Mega Drive were released in France, and some of them in Spain I think.

Dragon Ball was HUGE in Europe in the early 90s.

Super Butouden 2 was almost going to be released in America by the way, it was being localized and there must exist a prototype in english somewhere, it was featured on the latin american Club Nintendo magazine around 1995, but it was cancelled.
Apparently it was going to be called simply "Dragon Ball", and it used the weird names used in the french version for some characters (for example Broly = Tara)

Back in the DBZ heyday France was the second biggest manga market in the world (after Japan); localization (fighting games and less text-heavy games at least) was well worth it.

We got plenty of that in Spain by international trend osmosis, but publishers rarely bothered with a second translation
